PSU vs temple. Perfect. Makes sense. Howard. N Texas? Dumb
North Texas destroyed UNLV yesterday, who is suppose to be one of the best non P4 teams in the nation.
That's the exact type of game you want to play in your OOC schedule.
remember the N Texas coach name
he won't be there long
@boogie Denton Texas is a thousand miles away from Bloomington. I’m not entertained. The fans weren’t entertained. Play schools with some connection to iu or at least in the region. N Texas and Howard are stupid. Boring af
@boogie this is all very very simple.
Ooc games play in state schools ky/nd or bring in some maction.
when the names of people murdered in the biggest terrorist tragedy in American history are being read remember where you are and who your are. You’re not a bartender at a speed dating event. Remember you rapped about support for terrorists.
now I have to get in the shower as I have an outdoor game this morning where I will most certainly kick someone.
the only acceptable replies on these two topics are agreement

We played Indiana State last year, it was half empty at halftime.
@arthur-dent at least the money stayed with a school for Indiana residents

Brother, I haven't commented one way or the other in the other thread, and don't care to. This is about football.
North Texas will look like a good win when it's all said and done. Everyone schedules a FBS team during the season (wait until the sec starts playing their games in like 13 or 14). We're no different then everyone else.
@boogie you’re missing the point over and over. When that game was scheduled they had no idea how n Texas would be. If you are scheduling teams like this fine. No problem. Pick schools that at least have some regional interest or pay in state schools. Scheduling Howard is stupid. Play butler

Do you think we have a vested interest in helping them. For several years, Butler basketball was beating us to Indiana recruits. That would be much harder for Howard. For North Texas, Texas produces great players. If a game against North Texas gets Texan eyes on us, that is great. We should play a Texas and a Florida school every year.
and we most likely will…
All we have to do is get into the Playoffs and we’re nearly guaranteed to see them at some point…
Playing cupcakes does nothing for us anymore. Great players want to play in big games like Texas vs OSU. They should start out with one cupcake and then play an ND,Bama,Texas, Miami, or etc. And end the preseason with another cupcake.
We're the defending nations champs. We shouldn't be afraid to schedule one good or great team each year. It's not like our schedule is that difficult. We will most likely end the year playing 1 top 5ish team and 2 other top 15-20 teams. The problem with the current type of schedule is 10-2 might not get us into the playoffs.
@snarlcakes how many years has Manning been in the Texas system? Saying at OSU? Our strategy, at QB and elsewhere, isn't to bring in 5 star high school kids and have them in the system for 3-4 years. When they replace a starting left guard with a soph, that soph has a year in system. We bring in a senior from some smaller school that has no concept of our system. So we just are not as ready at week 1. Matching your scheduling to recruiting is brilliant.
BTW, UNLV was considered a playoff possible team from the group of 6. Did you see what North Texas did to them last night? Crushed them. Last year, two of the teams we played were good teams.

We’d all love to see those big games, but the reality is that it makes much more business sense to give yourself the best shot at making the playoff. Given the likelihood of several quality conference opponents, playing cupcakes in pre-conference makes a lot of sense. If Texas beats a cupcake instead of losing to OSU last season they’re probably in the playoff over Oklahoma. Just seems like those games hurt more than help…

What is college football from a fans perspective? Some kind of bizarre exercise in schedule tinkering to make sure you have the very best chance of making the playoff?
Or an outlet for competitive enjoyment?
Texas lost to a bad Florida team. That’s why they weren’t in. The SEC was not going to get 6 bids. Oklahoma also had better wins than them. Including a non-con win against Michigan.
You can slice and dice and what if this to death, but IF there is a benefit to not scheduling top 10 teams in the non-con to avoid another loss. It is marginal at best.
When you advocate for a tough non-con or a weak one, you’re just reading tea leaves trying to guess what the committee is going to value.

Pre-season projections are one thing. UNLV looks bad. I’m not mad about the North Texas or even Howard game on their own. It’s that fact that we refuse to play a single Power 4 or even high level G6 team that I find pathetic and stupid.

It's tough to know several years in advance who is going to be "good" when the schedules are drawn up.
