War heated up yesterday as we try to force open the strait. SecDef  says ceasefire still in effect despite the weapons fire.

I am still stunned that Trump ignored or discounted the warnings of General Caine and others that a US attack would prompt Iran to close the Strait and that, because of asymmetric warfare, reopening it would be difficult.

I guess he thought that Iran would immediately capitulate.  And if that was his thought process, it reflects a poor understanding of the Iranian regime and the fanatical zeal of the clerics in charge.

Trump is grossly incompetent.

War is not won solely on the battlefield.

Economics and politics are the final measures for success.

See, American Revolution, Vietnam and Afghanistan for examples.

Some of you - the weirdos and Crazy - really need to STFU and go read a f*cking book.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Hey, dummy.  The U.S. economy is also kicking Iran's economy a#% as well.

Don’t let “perfect” become the enemy of pretty good…

The biggest risk to ships passing through the Strait at the moment are the Fast Boats and I can assure you that even just a couple of guys armed Barrett 50 caliber rifles with 10 round box magazines could make mince meat out of even a 20 boat swarm at just under a thousand yards (well out of range of an RPG (approx. 550 yards).  They’re good against drones too…

If you upgrade that Barrett to a group of M2 machine guns placed fore, aft and amidships on both sides of the ship anf you’ve just sanitized a bubble of nearly a mile everywhere you can get a visual… Let the IRGC get a few tastes of an M2’s accurate fire and I guarantee they’ll rethink the Fast Boat version of asymmetric warfare…

Will that totally protect shipping? Of Course Not… Making Fast Boat attacks a dangerously expensive proposition takes one more tool out of the Iranian tool box and lets you concentrate on other problems (like mines and submersibles)…

You’re right about the Insurance Companies and my solution to that problem is to seize all Iranian assets and funds that can be identified and utilize those funds to set up the “Strait Transit Insurance Fund” whereas any ship incurring damage initiated by Iran is reimbursed for their losses from that Fund (using the Iranians own money to pay for whatever damages they cause)… 😎🇺🇸

Operation EPIC FURY has ended . . .

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-05-05/us-says-offensive-phase-of-iran-war-over-as-ship-hit-in-strait?utm_campaign=pol&utm_medium=bd&utm_source=applenews

If true, that’s a twist.

@spartans9312 maybe @carramrod can explain how this proposed 'deal'... Which is just a MOU at this point.... Is anything different than JCPOA that Trump killed 8 years ago?

1) Iran agrees to suspend enrichmentb for X number of years

2) We release billions in frozen Iranian assets...

This President is Epic Moron.

I'd guess that a response could be that Iran's nuclear program has been set back much further and so an agreement to suspend enrichment (that we know they will try to cheat on no matter what, but will slow them down some) makes more sense.  In contrast. Obama made a deal with Iran when their program was much further developed and so the suspension agreement was not useful.  All of this would fit the Mow-the-Lawn strategy that doesn't really appeal to me very much.

Do I know the facts backing up that possible explanation to be true?  Nope.  Do I think Trump is eloquent enough to explain it?  Nope.

But a deal with the same structure but much different circumstances is not the same deal.  Same applies in the business world.

How different are the circumstances? If we can't prove the program is so destroyed that it is materially different, we should just trust?

@arthur-dent i read iran proposed a five year halt to enrichment.  one would assume that necessarily includes measures to verify same, which is to say where they are exactly now by way of inspection etc.  from their standpoint if that comes with releasing sanctions some dough and other shit they need to regroup i can see it as a good deal for both sides.  we got what we wanted.  and they relent for money and growth etc
