Maybe they didn't really know that Biden was impaired.  That dude is on the struggle bus.  Holy shit.

@big-ryan

Thats a remarkably stupid article.

First of all, the Trump/Bibi bombing campaign is giving the Mideast the best chance for peace than has existed for many decades.  All the turmoil can be traced back to Iran. Decapitating Iran and destroying its military is a huge positive step .  What happens going forward is up to the Iranians.

Second, this is by no means an impulsive action as suggested by the author.  It had been in the planning stages for months.  Our very public naval preparations took more than a month.  The Trump negotiations were underway in the final hours before the attack.

Having a president who has resolve and is decisive is new.  Every president in this century said Iran can’t have nukes, only Trump took care of business.  I get having a decisive president is new compared the the mushy policies of past presidents.  Decisiveness can be disquieting to those who aren’t if not abhorrent. Biden’s  vapid response to the October 7 massacre ought to have brought much more criticism.

MAGA Split?  That’s the funniest and dumbest part.  Nowhere is it written Trump supporters must agree on everything.  Only the never-Trumpers, who constantly think in terms of cult, believe unanimity is an important value.

Me?  While I think the events of the past few days are positive, I don’t approve of the seemingly unilateral decision.  This is similar to Clinton’s decision to bomb Belgrade.  That worked  This might.  Regardless, the legislative branch should have been involved.  I understand the need for secrecy, and the awful state of political cooperation, but we can never make things better unless we try.

I agree, this unveiled, limited-negotiation approach is going to ruffle some status quo feathers, but considering the money and lives we’ve poured into the ME, it’s worth a shot.

but the most difficult part of all this is about to begin and the new approach immediately puts us on our back foot.  This really is like a buffed up Israeli operation except they usually rely on us for international political cover, to keep ME partners placated, and to keep post-attack regional flare ups contained.  Can a country that now moves unilaterally also play peacemaker?  That’s gonna be a tough sell for an admin that opposes coalition building.

Looks like part of Trump's strategy here is to significantly weaken China.

IRGC is claiming 560 U.S. deaths and the deck of the Lincoln is now in operable for takeoffs or landings.

Things are getting ugly out there.

What flip flop?  I've never supported war in Iran but maybe there is some good that will come of it.

@bradstevens and look at this link, I can find several with this type of definition.

https://www.keene.edu/academics/cchgs/resources/presentation-materials/characteristics-and-appeal-of-fascism/download/#:~:text=Page%201,13.

I'm going to add here that with the criteria you are using by arguing the US is a fascist state between 1980-2025, you'd also have to call the US a fascist state from basically 1775-1924, during the American Indian Wars.  The US was much more racist then, the people just as proud of their nation and armed forces (holding many more parades!) and much more warlike and involved in actual territorial expansion through conquering other people.

Do you honestly think of America as a fascist state for most of its history?

I think you have greatly misinterpreted what I have suggested. Go back and read my first reply to you. I have not said the US is fascist. You posted items about fascist using military. I suggested Q would have some comments about that. That was the opening bid, the US has overused its military and has an obsession over military strength.

As to fascism in America; below, I hope it works, is a link that says fascism is not the end product but a process. In that regard, we certainly see fascist elements.

America is not fascist but tenants of fascism has some noticeable support in America.

We are not fascist. We are not communist. It doesn't mean there aren't some people in America that aren't communist. Or that some ideas are communist inspired or adjacent. But those are fewer because we are a center-right country.

But back to my original post, do we overuse our military and is it not a HUGE source of pride for many Americans?

Back to my original post, it's stupid to call Trump a fascist for this attack on Iran.  Agree or disagree?  Can you call out someone on the left?

Interesting (to me) little tidbit...

From what I can gather from the various reports I've seen, it looks like the Israelis targeted the "human" assets -- government and military officials -- while the US took care of the hard facilities, i.e. the missile sites and nuclear sites themselves. Makes me think the Israelis had better intel on the people than we did.

the Israelis have better intel (pagers, Solemani, etc), but it gives Trump a way to say he didn’t kill the head of regime.

As I was saying...

Congrats on winning the Senate and House in November Democrats.

Oh if only it was that easy to defeat a pathological narcissist.

There is an evil man in charge.  He will put himself ahead of everything and every one.  The more he is backed against the wall for his crimes, the more he will lash out.

Everything he says and does, is for the sole purpose of protecting his personal interests.

And considering he will be in prison before he dies if he allows an election to occur.... he will make sure that doesn't happen.

"cannot have an election during wartime." Executive action.  You watch.

It runs deep, the TDS in this one...

Trump would be happy to take credit for that, but it does shield him from taking the heat for the school the Israelis blew up.

gotta prove it was the Israelis that blew it up first

I don't think that's in dispute, BICBW. Regardless, Bibi doesn't give a shit.

It is in dispute. I agree, Bibi doesn't give a shit, which is why his popularity is terrible abroad and poor at home.

Oh shit @unclemark , I stand corrected.

Report says US spy agency tracked supreme leader’s location and handed intel to IDF; deaths of military chief of staff, defense minister and top IRGC commander also confirmed
