Not a bad gig, get several months off with pay them asked to return.
Shocker.

considering there are 3 million "hundreds" is nothing. i assumed more would be found necessary and asked to come back. how many were let go?
@mcm666 The Hill said 201,000. These hundreds are just GSA, according to the link below, other departments have already brought some back. No numbers. So we don't know how many in the net, nor if more will be removed. I wonder how many would be gone if there was a simple hiring freeze which wouldn't have required a massive inducement?
@arthur-dent got it. I would hope that if it’s that many let go they find that thousands were necessary and hire them back. Otherwise that’s some serious bloat

I'm not in Musk's head, but it sure seems like they went into this thing with the pre-ordained conclusion that they were going to fire as many people as possible, and then they simply did that, without any consideration for how necessary operations might continue. If I'm reading that right, it's perfectly natural that they will find quite a lot of them were necessary.
In business, you often find companies expanding and contracting workforces based on business cycles. Business growing? Hire more people to keep up with demand. Business stagnating? Cut people to reduce costs. But those business cycles don't really exist with government services. To point to the example in the OP, it's not like the services provided by GSA were suddenly not in demand. Government offices don't suffer through or react to business cycles like private enterprise does. They still need to be staffed, office space still needs to be managed. Etc.
Again, I could have Musk entirely wrong on this, but my impression was that he was cutting for the sake of cutting, and now we are seeing the inevitable bounceback from them not doing enough thinking and planning before making the cuts.
@goat no. Not if as many as 300,000 were canned and the re hires are hundreds

Tip of the iceberg. Wait until it's all done, and see what the final numbers are. Trump's proposed budget (LOL, I know, presidential budgets don't mean shit, but it's still informative for this discussion) included 11,000 new IRS employees, which is more than were laid off during the cuts.
@goat yes let’s wait and see. That would evidence they justify their jobs. Hundreds out of more than quarter of a million is something for vapid Toledo grads to get excited about without an ounce of common sense 😉
stick with archaic religion. Your logic skills are as lacking as your common sense
it’s click bait for. Well. You

Are you really still being an obnoxious prick? You had a chance to sleep.
@goat I think you’re a moron. Drunk or sober. That you have the temerity to write the shit you do evidences same as well as the fact that you lack any semblance of common sense or self awareness.
stick to shit few bother to read. Otherwise you expose yourself

Sorry you're still like this. Cheers.
@goat nah don’t lash out then act surprised. It’s disingenuous. I hold back on what I think of you.
That was some of the dumbest shit ever. I have a buddy who’s a GS15 that took the deal in April to stay home and get paid through September. GS15 is the highest on the GS pay scale and they’re important jobs. Well they couldn’t leave that job unfilled for 5 or 6 months so they had to hire someone else to do the job. So for months the government has been paying two high salaries for the same job. He’s only one example of many I’m aware of and reportedly 1000s across government. They didn’t think this stuff through because they didn’t know squat about what they were doing. It truly was a clown show. Not a bad gig, get several months off with pay them asked to return.
