Serious question and maybe it was addressed in another thread during my hiatus on the WC, but how is "gender affirming care" any different than "conversion therapy"? I find them both vile, detrimental to kids who need help, and a form of child abuse.

I believe what you are saying is that you think gender-affirming care is the wrong kind of treatment, and that all youth experiencing gender dysphoria should instead be given psychotherapy that seeks to resolve this dysphoria by changing their identity to match their biological sex.
This is partially correct, but I don't expect that psychotherapy will resolve GD, as much as it will provide non-surgical ways to treat or manage it. Previously, people with several mental illnesses, of which I believe this to be, were institutionalized. Then we had it all come crashing down thanks to LBJ.
Let's be frank for a second - the majority of the entire outpatient mental health landscape isn't to resolve anything, but help patients manage it so they can continue to see their provider over and over while being prescribed medication with the same purpose (long-time user, no curing or resolving).
I'm sure I'm too cynical about healthcare, but I've spent enough time working with and hyping up recurring revenue streams to believe providers, drug companies, etc., are interested in curing anyone.
