Not sure what forum platform software is being used.... But you guys really need to look into using Xenforo, since it's what everyone is basically used to and has the functionality users are going to demand.
I'm happy to subscribe here and support you guys, but this forum software isn't going to cut it if you want to maintain some engagement, long term

Mark, maybe get these guys to look into using phpBB if they aren't willing to pay the monthly cost of XenForo
