@larsiu

Now do $40K income. That's the ACA's target population.

@larsiu poor straight medicaid.  from above poor to below 400 percent somewhere in the subsidy range for aca marketplace.  above 400 percent just full boat marketplace

Back to the shutdown.  Ending the subsidies will raise insurance which is going up on top of it anyway. I don’t see how this is anything but a negative for pubs re voters

@mcm666

I don’t think ending subsidies is the issue.  The issue is ending Covid enhanced subsidies when Biden and the Democrats already wrote a sunset clause into the law.

@co-hoosier technically you're correct.  but that's of no moment to people.  what they'll remember is in year 5 their insurance spiked bc republicans ended their subsidies (enhanced yes but again....)

@co-hoosier i keep posting this bc i knew @spartans9312 health insurance went nuts after obamacare

In Missouri, the increase in health insurance costs since 2011 varies significantly by market, with the individual market experiencing a much sharper rise than employer-based coverage. It is not possible to give a precise single percentage for all plans due to the different market segments and the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Individual market

The individual health insurance market saw the most dramatic increase between 2011 and 2017:
  • The annual cost per insured person rose from $2,099 to $7,051, a 236% increase.

@co-hoosier  just like the tax credit sunset the GOP had written into law and just extended?

BTW, read that poll you hated again. I think you will see the word expanded.

Not at all. The tax change was a general policy issue, made temporary as a compromise to get it passed.

The insurance subsidy enhancement was a specific response to Covid-inspired economic devastation.  The Democrats made it temporary knowing that the Covid crisis would end.   It had already been extended once.

It was made temporary because they had to pay for it and couldn't over a lifetime. This time they claimed since it was already in law they didn't need to pay for it as it wasn't a cut

Pubs do the same thing with tax cuts, bring them in for 9 years to get under the budget reconciliation limit, then make them permanent later.

This is what needs to be made known to the middle class. Extrapolate out over 15 years and then realize a lot of that money goes to nothing. These folks out of pocket costs sky rocketed to subsidize others…

What do we do with the others? The biggest problem are the people with severe pre-existing conditions. If they are going to have health coverage they either need to be Elon Musk or someone else is covering them. Or the 3rd option, let them die. Several states he'd tried high risk pools, all failed, yes, Colorado's was heading to failure, I have linked it, they had that same problem.

My Vietnam vet brother had a son with Spina Bifida. At the time the government took no responsibility. I am sure it cost someone far more than my brother could afford on his then Navy Corpsman and his wife's Navy Nurse wages.

If we want it to work with no one paying for it, I guess we can put everyone who exceeds a certain dollar amount into hospice. $250,000 and in you go. Who thinks that will be popular?

When we google why this year's premiums are so high, cost of that insurance for patients with a huge bill, tariffs, and shortages if Drs and nurses are listed as the big drivers. That last one is going to get worse as hospitals have been paying the visa costs for foreign doctors. Are they going to as freely pay the new $100,000 amount on top of the salary? If they do, that will surely be charged back to us. A very large percentage of our medical workers are foreign.

@arthur-dent few things. Pre-existing is why I temper my aggravation over the skyrocketing Obama insurance costs. Lots of fatties and smokers but also folks who did nothing to contribute other than bad luck.

the reality is we need to drill down on the system. Why is care so expensive. Do we need managed care. Bene mgrs.  what can we do to bring down costs across the board
