Hay @littlebitchbuckeye here's a crazy one for you, diagnose me. My sabbath observance is this: I refuse to shave or trim my facial hair between sundown Saturday and sunrise Monday. No matter what I am doing or what I have planned, that's a rule I've followed for the past 25 years. I'm not entirely sure why I do it, but my face feels like sandpaper tonight, and I picked up my electric razor, realized what day it was, and put it back down. Figure me out.
Certain rules were specific to Jewish priests while others applied to Jews in general in order that they not mimic unbelievers, or at least that is my rudimentary understanding. The explanation in the link below goes into greater detail.
Of course, all of that went away with Jesus's sacrifice for us and his "new covenant for us".
Hebrews 9:15
Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

@JDB, a side line of inquiry: what's the point? All due respect to littlebitchbuckeye, he's not here for a philosophical debate. He gets value and comfort out of his beliefs, and either wants everyone else to experience the same or is following the dictates of his religion to spread the Word (or both).I know that he has a purpose for everything that happens, especially and including the suffering of an infant.
Let's drill in on this. What is the plan? How is the innocent infant, who has done nothing right or wrong, able to partake in divinity or any other form of salvation?
Causing him to doubt will bring about little good in the world, other than to satisfy the itch we atheists get to prove we are right (which I believe we are--suck is @snarlcakes-- and which I tend to scratch too often as well). The most likely outcome in debates like this is that the believers hate the atheists for not believing and the atheists think less of the religious because of their lack of reason in this area. Is it worth it?
What's the harm? We're having a quasi-respectful debate and discussion and I don't intend to try and change his mind. I'm trying to be more open and see things from a religious perspective.
I've long posted about my inability to relate and don't expect to be "awoken" but I do not mind trying to understand others' perspectives more.
@jdb jdb stop. there's more going on than what you see on the surface. this has been an absolute masterclass in posting. he introduced himself to the board with a humorous handle then took us on a spiritual journey so that we know who he is: a man of faith. a man who believes and knows and sees things we don't. then when he got our trust, which he has, he waged war on the left. he's ftwindiana. he's danc. he's the best of us but with a set up.
pure masterclass in posting. in two weeks i'll have him ordering snarl around. his potential is that great
We don’t know why some people rape and murder, but Jesus does
Serious question LBB, what does Jesus do about such a thing?

We're told that the unrepentant will face judgment from Christ and then, possibly, a very unpleasant experience in the hereafter. Only Jesus can judge and execute a sentence.

I think the discussion has been outstanding. I don't begrudge you for not believing. It is my belief that God will reveal himself to you at the appropriate time, which may or may not be during your life in this world. As I said, God thought of you, created you, and has big plans for you. You and I are brothers, even if you don't yet know it.

Thank you my brother. I'm certainly willing to modify my doctrinal understanding. After all, anyone seeking to persuade others must also be willing to themselves be persuaded. That's what honest, selfless, discussion entails. Those who seek to "win" an argument are driven by ego rather than a sincere search for truth. The ego blinds such people.
As for my belief and faith in our Heavenly Father, there is NOTHING that can weaken it!
Some are not yet ready to follow Jesus. NOBODY can follow Jesus unless and until our Father permits them to do so.
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Romans 11:25
25 Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
John 6:44
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:65
65 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father".
However, unlike many Christians, I am rock-solid in my belief that ALL who ever existed will, eventually, be welcomed into our Father's Kingdom, but that's probably another thread and it's a thread that many of my Christian brothers will dislike and which may compel them to brandish me a heretic.
Romans 8:37-39
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What weird ass Protestant sect do you belong to?
I can get behind this. You and I are brothers, even if you don’t yet know it.
Just remember, though, that God created some shitlib and communist brothers, too.
@littlebitchbuckeye yeah but what kind of church do you attend? What denomination?
@littlebitchbuckeye yeah but what kind of church do you attend? What denomination?
I don't attend a church. I don't belong to a denomination. I am a follower of our Christ, our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
