Part of the story is China.

Another big part is worldwide recognition of the problem and treaties to contain dangerous labs, establish safety protocols, etc. like we do with nuclear tech.

Scientists who tried to shut down this inquiry should not be trusted.

China has blood on its hands, and all of the COVID-fearing lefties (domestically and internationally) failed to hold China accountable. It's now too late to do anything because they blew any chance to recoup economic damages years earlier.

We were never getting economic damages. Would have been (still could be) a nice diplomatic edge though when trying to pry other nations away from Chinese influence.

@bradstevens

What bothers me more than letting China off the hook is the behavior of our own scientists, public servants, and media about this whole affair. Not only in the deliberate misrepresentations for the sake of getting Trump, but the deliberate and onerous measures to control all of us and show off power and influence. Oh, and the French Laundry.

it would have been a great tool to renegotiate trade agreements and the West absolutely should have been running China’s name through the mud and placing direct blame on Chinese incompetence and risk. @

Which is why China did not cooperate in an investigation.

Of course, but we (the West) could have used that implicit guilt to public advantage.

@oneeyedundertaker a mile deep an inch wide. Too many people who can’t think in this country.  Of the many F ups of Trump during that time was ever giving fauci a microphone.  It evidenced trump’s inexperience in public policy
