Why do you think they aren't serious?
There have been serious investigations, many of them, but this Fauci hearing wasn't part of that. The MAGA Republicans are playing to the emotional MAGA base that just wants to see Fauci "rot in jail" for something - and they don't have a clue what that something is. If they were serious about investigating all things COVID, that's what they'd be doing rather than trying to catch Fauci in a scam hearing.
Investigations, lots of them (Google):

I don’t know the reason for pardon dates. The current intel assessment, with low confidence, is that it was probably a lab leak.
