It's too early to bank on it, but the "Under Trump, not even the great American pastime is affordable" ads write themselves.

This is a winner if the Democrats commit to cleaning up the cities they run and taking a tougher stance on crime. I think public safety is the big winner at this time

I think all the things we all think are important don't determine elections. Not that they aren't important, or that we are wrong to care about them. Abortion is important. Immigration is important. Crime is important. They are all important. But I don't think they swing elections. The people who really vote based on those issues tend to be activists who aren't going to be persuaded, anyway. But the genuine swing voter, the guy who honestly has a chance to pick either party, when he walks into that voting booth, what's going to be on his mind? Only one topic has immediacy for every voter every day: the cost of living. He might have an opinion on abortion, but chances are he didn't just go through a pregnancy scare. He might have an opinion on crime, but chances are he wasn't recently mugged. But he absolutely went to the store two days ago and filled up the gas tank on his way to the polling place. That's what's on his mind, because it's the one issue that never goes away, day in, day out.

I think this is why the Tories got nuked in Britain, and I think it's why the Dems never had a chance in 2024. But voters are fickle, and by the time the next round of elections hits us, if this problem isn't fixed, the Brits will decide it was all Labour's fault after all, and the Americans will likewise blame the GOP.
