Judging from the expert explanations, it sounds like a bit of personification is going on in their interpretations. In other words, the dogs are simply trying to figure out if we’re about to give them some food or take them on a walk or some other desirable engagement with us.

One of my Ex’s used to do this, right before she pissed on the floor.
But damn she was cute…. Until she wasn’t!!
