@co-hoosier critical legal studies. precursor to crt. was big in the 70s and then carried on in grad programs and throughout more liberal or policy-based law schools etc for years. law is integrated with social shit and inherently reflects biases and reinforces same to the detriment of historically marginalized peeps
She'll probably get a promotion.

Critical legal studies is a crock of crap. It’s just a way for lazy thinkers and those who can’t deal with heavy Socratic instruction to get a law degree.
Even if there was something to CLS it’s mostly confined to the legislature and statutory law where power, money and influence rule the roost because elected officials are not able to withstand those influences.
Otherwise, there is no substitute for finely honed legal skills if a lawyer really wants to be an influence in policy. Knowing social problems and activism will never be a substitute for splitting hairs, recognizing differences, making good arguments, and being persuasive. Good lawyering trumps good activism any day.
Sounds the Cincinnati dining scene will die.

@dbmhoosier these cities love woke progressive mayors that have never owned nor run businesses. just virtue signal. play the race card. then they are at a loss when people run like hell from the cities to the burbs.
very sad.
@dbmhoosier The folks at Jeff Ruby’s and the other high end restaurants have a point but when you’re headed to one of these places you’re using their valet service and you don’t need to subject yourself to questionable areas.
Can anyone here play this game?
@mohoosier i don't know. i don't know anything other than the comments on here
@mcm666 Wouldn’t surprise me. She was a surprise winner in the last election, ending decades of GOP control of the DA’s office. This was the last position in the city/county not controlled by the Dems.
Can anyone here play this game?
It’s been 50 years since the civil rights laws, 60+ years since Brown. We’ve had decades of ECE, affirmative action, preferences, set asides, and more. Yet black under performance in education, income, and general achievement goes on. Drugs, violence, incarcerations exceed population averages for the black population. We are not doing something right. Many believe a black person doesn’t know how to get an ID to vote. The bigotry of low expectations is a real problem. But that isn’t the only problem.
@co-hoosier the lasting impact of the economic impact can’t be downplayed but yes I agree. There is an enabling and a cultural problem
What do you make of the data that show black Haitian immigrants do better in terms of jobs, incomes, and social issues in the U.S. than native Blacks? Same for minority Latinos and Asians. I have my doubts about the present day actual impacts of historic deprivations.
@co-hoosier one of my partners and best friends is haitian. has a ph.d. i tell him all the time he's not "a real black." he's very liberal. HATES trump. talks all the time about racism in this country. i'll revisit this later coh but in many ways i actually mean it when i joke with him that he's not a "real black guy." his culture. his experience. what's been instilled and inculcated is very different then someone who grew up in cabrini-green. he might be the blackest mofo to ever walk the earth, and he might be, but it's different.
