The Biden campaign warns that Trump’s rhetoric — from “vermin” to “poisoned” blood — could reflect history repeating.
Was it valid to criticize Trump for these statements?
@ohio-guy of course. The difference is the left’s propensity for violence. Inciteful words are acted upon far more frequently with the left
If you have a valid criticism of Trump's language--calling people vermin is a good one, using the word bloodbath is not--then criticize the language. Talk about how, when used, it can cause bad results. But stop linking everything back into your argument that Trump and MAGA are Nazis or Nazi wannabes. That, too, has a bad effect on our polity, because it is ridiculous hyperbole that could lead to what just happened (or the two Trump assassination attempts, etc.). And yes, people on the right should stop calling the left "evil" for policy differences, too.The Biden campaign warns that Trump’s rhetoric — from “vermin” to “poisoned” blood — could reflect history repeating.

Edit: And I did call him out for that at the old site. Also called out people on the left like Bowl for dehumanizing Trump.
One of the saddest parts of all this is that Kirk was a very good man for all who actually knew him and if the left including the gay shooter knew the actual true and not the BS lies spread by our leftist media this might not have happened. All we hear is that he hated gays and was a white supremacist. We have a serious problem with the media.

A couple of things. I'm not sure the 'data' he is quoting is accurate. There is definitely contrary information out there.
I'm also very worried about overreach here. Sure, crack down on violent rhetoric, but I highly doubt that any opposing view won't get caught up in what I'm guessing is a very wide net they're about to cast. Hope I'm wrong about that.
He's purposefully cherry picking the data to misrepresent what it says. Like when he compared "young" liberals to "young" conservatives. He did that because if you look at all liberals and all conservatives, it's actually the right that is more willing to accept political violence. But that's not good for his narrative, so he finds the subcategory where he can paint a different picture.
That's the danger of surveys. Anyone can find a nugget in there to tell whatever story they want.
@mcm666 For sure. Relatively new is how I put it, and I believe it is. And I agree it’s a growing problem. But it isn’t only a left problem. Your own damn article includes mention of Trump and his own contributions to increasing political violence.
But, as I’ve acknowledged, now many times, the left needs to tamp this trend down.
Why not ask your buddies that are saying it rather than have someone here speculate? 🤔
I stay away from politics on Facebook, especially with the MAGA faction of old shipmates. They’re devoted followers.
@iunorth the right are no angels. in fact the right are bad. the left are just off the charts at this point.

You sure about that? Where did you get your data?

Halperin is a Dem but also maybe the smartest man in politics. Thinks it might have cost the Dems the midterms. I don't think they have a clue how much they've screwed up. I expect those voter registration numbers to continue to trend Republican.

Someone posted an opinion that the Right was weaponizing these reactions--a concerted effort was being made to find these nuts who are celebrating and justifying Kirk's murder, and broadcasting them. I think that's probably correct. It's a really smart political move.Halperin is a Dem but also maybe the smartest man in politics. Thinks it might have cost the Dems the midterms. But I'm guessing people on the left think it's unfair or non-representative of the party as a whole. I kinda disagree. I think the Dems have cultivated this mood among their base that the right is made up of evil fascists and so many among them privately think the world is better off without Kirk and that this is a good development. Anecdotally, not a single neighbor I've talked to about this issue who is a Democrat (and that is most) has expressed any concern for Kirk or his family at all. It's pretty astounding, really. I'm guessing a lot of people know others who might not be on social media but are obnoxious about their left-leaning political beliefs, and seeing these retweets, etc. reminds them of those people.
Of course, the left has done the same thing with the right (hell, The Daily Show made it into material nearly every night, especially under Noah).
Just a reminder that democracy is a joke in today's world. Electoral politics have little to do with actual issues that face a nation and need legislation. It's all about mobilizing people based on emotion and tribal allegiances.

I thought I was sure, but now I'm not. I'll try to find the poll I thought I was referencing.

In a political sense, I hope you’re right as far as mobilizing people & tribalism. That will bode well for Republicans as the ugliest elements of the left continue to command the spotlight. I do think that issues can still matter though, perhaps as the impetus for mobilizing people. All jokes about crablegs aside, I still think immigration was the biggest reason a Republican won the popular vote for the first time in 20 years….
