Aqualung
OK I’m pretty impressed with myself I came up with the number two one before I looked at the list.
Prince has to be on the list. When Doves Cry or 1999
Ok. I'm going to set up a bracket.
Rule #1: its my bracket so I get to make the rules: yes, multiple songs from one band.
You have three days to make more suggestions then I'll put a bracket together.
If you think i missed something after the fact, tough, you have three days.
If you disagree with my seeding, refer to rule 1.
Shouldn't be too tough to get to 64 songs. If we get more than 64, I'll start pruning.
If you think that i unfairly kept an undeserving song and eliminated a contender, refer to rule 1.
Almost every pick so far though I agree with.
How many Beatles songs are you limiting it to? Is this best rock songs? Best guitar songs?Ok. I'm going to set up a bracket.

I think you win the contest with Aqualung.
Best opening guitar riff.
So if it is a song with a fantastic chorus but "meh" intro, it doesn't count.
For example: Bohemian Rhapsaody is a genre defying unique song with masterful guitar-work, but it doesn't really have a starting guitar riff. So no seed for you.
It takes a few moments to get to the actual riff, but I'll offer Dire Straits "Money for Nothing".
I'm allowing multiple songs from a band, but I'll probably try to limit it to three.
Of note, bass guitar counts.
Which means we can keep Roundabout from Yes and potentially use something like Another One Bites the Dust.
@squeakyclean If you start a 64 band tournament can you start it on the OTF? Trying to keep that board alive. TIA
It gets overlooked bc it’s only instrumental, but I have to put Cliffs of Dover my Eric Johnson

Toadies "Rubberneck"...every single song...best opening riffs on any album in the history of music.

With all due respect to Eric Johnson, I don't know if this qualifies as a "guitar riff" song. The opening is more of a solo if anything, and maybe what starts around 35 seconds could be considered a riff, but it's not exactly memorable to the point where if I hear the guitar riff, I know exactly what song it is.
Ok it isn't guitar but I love the opening sax in Turn the Page. Just because it won't have near as many even though everyone loves great sax, I will put Born to Run on a list.
Guitar riff starts at 10 second mark, "I need a lover"
"You can't make someone listen to reason if they aren't willing to think"-- Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
