If the threat was deemed credible enough to require the plane switch for the President, then shouldn't the people left on the plane be considered as well? I'm thinking it would be a little more than annoying if they'd been shot out of the sky.
Yeah...any sense of annoyance might disappear when they tell you there was a credible threat against the plane. Even if you're delayed a day or so that's infinitely better than a search party looking for your remains spread across the countryside.
That's all I'm saying. COH assumes this is TDS. I guess in his mind if the regular AF1 was shot out of the sky but Trump was safe then it would be a nothingburger.
Yo Sammy, need the cache cleared or whatever magic you do. This relatively new thread is down to a crawl.
@unclemark May just be the internet with these storms. Ton of people with out power in the state and probably internet services impacted, but will clear it and see if it helps.
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
There are 10,000 things that are legitimate ways that Trump is a horrible human being and bad president.
This is an absolute nothing burger and I don't blame him one bit for this (and it was likely not even his call, SS probably forced him).
My only question is about how they played out the ruse. Once Trump was safely on his way, why couldn't they announce what happened so that the other passengers weren't sacrificed in an attempt to take him out?
Staff and press know there's a risk when they fly with the president. This, though, was something very different. They were unwittingly on a decoy plane - - and had no idea Trump wasn't on it - - in the face of a specific, credible threat (an assassination attempt) by Iran.
The decoy plane should have remained on the ground until Trump's plane (a smaller C-32A aircraft) was out of vulnerable airspace. Those on the decoy plane should then have been alerted to the threat and given the option to either remain on the plane for the flight out of Ankara or make alternate travel arrangements. That would have been a feasible AND RESPONSIBLE plan, reflecting some consideration for the well-being of Trump's staff and the press. The fact that Trump was flying to Mildenhall with public tracking identifiers for his aircraft disabled or omitted from public radar feeds means there would have been no enhanced risk to Trump.
If there was, nevertheless, still a concern about Trump's safety, then the departure of the decoy plane could have been delayed until Trump was on the ground at Mildenhall, again with passengers on the decoy given the option of continuing on that plane or taking another flight.
Trump just doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself and his family. And apparently Hegseth. Hegseth flew with Trump from Ankara to Mildenhall. Rubio was left on the decoy plane. Lol.

I doubt that any of this was Trump's call.

Sure, the decoy arrangement (sneaking him onto another plane) was likely conceived by the Secret Service and military, and a smart move. But did he think about the poor saps on the decoy, and attempt to make that situation safer for them? Doubtful, and that's on him.
You described those on the decoy as bait. They should have been apprised of that risk before the plane took off.
You started the thread with a WTF. Who do you think is at fault here.

Because he was still on the way. Once the plane landed, different story.
Trump to Marco...
