@snarlcakes If you fucking say BTC I'm going to scream. If BTC is an inflation hedge please explain the last year. I'll take my answer offline. Kthxbye.

In that case, like I told Murt before, you can leave all the chubby 6s and sats for me.  The more the merrier.  Expand your time horizon.

I want out in 8.5 years (I'm 51 now) and Vanguard already this week downgraded their market growth expectations (again) to 5.2% YoY for the next decade. Which is pretty much a non lube situation for me.

AND YOU EXPECT ME TO TRUST BITCOIN.

Utility costs way up because of the renewable scam.

Property taxes up because of outrageous regulation and costs imposed on new construction.

Borrowing costs way up because of outrageous federal borrowing.

The cost of keeping food frozen or refrigerated up because of skilled  labor shortages. + utility costs.*

Energy costs up because of Middle East turmoil and years of repressed domestic production.

Sources?

Do you have any evidence wind and solar cost more to produce today than a couple of years ago?

@co-hoosier that’s not true.  You can follow the rise in costs month by month and how they never subsided

@big-ryan they’re choosing between food and meds.  And this started in 2019 and is a product of nothing more than government.  Bad governance.  And people should remember it. Less gov. Less gov control.  Biden bullshit.  Trump bullshit.  Gov did this to us.

Preach it!  These MFers making it rain w deficit dollars.  Trying to erase student loan debt and enact tariffs with Executive Orders.  Pandering to a zombie fringe.  Utter shit.

Considering the stock market is at 2.4x the economy I'd sign on the dotted in ink to get that return over the next decade.  It also makes alternative scare assets look more appealing 😉

One thing is for sure, we are in interesting times.  My best guesses at what happens; a productivity boom through AI (obviously preferred), deflationary spiral when the asset bubble (stock market) pops and then we print 5x more money than we did during Covid.  Or I am completely wrong and the bubble continues to inflate and deficits increase like it has the past 15 years.

That comment is among the most laughably ridiculous things I've ever read here, and that's saying something.

A perpetual victim would say.

Finally, rather than accept responsibility for not being able to cope with inflation we blame government, politicians, political parties, capitalism, bad luck, etc.

@snarlcakes what does that little rat face Pete even do now?  Just talk?  He’s young. Go Fing work. He doesn’t want to. He didn’t work when he was in office. He’s one of these do nothings looking for a gov gig where people pay him to just talk. I’ve never hated a politician more.

He grew a mid beard and turned coat on Indiana for Michigan.  I also believe he has invested in a flannel factory somewhere.

Americans are going into debt to pay for food.

Grocery prices are Americans' top affordability challenge: Report

Well. What do we do then?

I've linked an article below from Yale about the risks of running incredibly large federal deficits and long term debt servicing. Our federal debt will punch through the $40tn mark later this year or early next. Debt to GDP is now in excess of 100% and rising. Interest on the debt is now a top three federal program by $$$$. Even though the US still has an independent central bank (for now) at the rudder we are experiencing higher than expected inflation AND rising interest rates. Best case scenario is a trade off but lowering both at the same time seems like a pipe dream at this point.

all this to say, we're not spending our way out of this mess. At least not government spending our way out of it. And our persistance in ignoring the radon gas that is debt in this country is borderline appalling considering the consequences that are baked in. I've said this before but we better pray and pray hard that the US wins the race to AGI b/c it might be the only fucking way to solve the debt crisis. Rising government debt has real and sharp edges to it for average Americans. It's why the DSA scares the shit out of me.

The Inflationary Risks of Rising Federal Deficits and Debt | The Budget Lab

Easy solution:  GLP-1s for everyone, driving down the demand and therefore cost of food.

Having said all that... the affordability issues still on the Dems?  Why aren't the current GOP leaders working to fix it, if so?

The causes of the cost of living crisis are deep and varied and both parties have their hands in it. But voters will mostly blame the party in power.

Affordability?

When considering how much public money is wasted and stolen, this is a huge scandal.
