Ah.Why?@bar-down she fits in perfectly
That fact that you guys think that story speaks poorly of Kiros is exactly why you are about to be ruled over by socialists.
Because the rise of the DSA is the left version of maga populism. People who can't find the success in life previous generations did being told, it's not your fault. It's the system is against you. Only it's not immigrants causing the problem, it's the rich.
Trump won over voters the Democrats dismissed as losers by convincing them they were victims. Now, you're going to dismiss your own group of losers right over to the far left, who, by the way, is way better than you at playing the victim card.
I read the dismissal of this woman as dismissal of her as a person meeting the qualifications of someone you’d want in Congress, not as a dismissal of her as a person.
I'd also like to add.....
At this point, can't we just assume that everything is a would unless you tell us otherwise?

@hurryinghoosiers Here's the problem "you guys" have right now. I agree with most of what you say about Trump. I think he's the worst President we've ever had, and its not particularly close. He's an awful human being, which should matter. But he's one person. I don't think he'll completely go away, and be a non factor, in 2 years like other Presidents have. He craves attention way too much for that. But he will lose a significant percentage of his power and control, basically overnight.
I think right now, more than anything, we're a society looking for bad in people and things. It commands much more of our time and attention than positive things do. Its what social media does, and its not likely going to change any time soon. And if it does, it'll just change for the "worse".
So... who are people in the middle going to turn their ire? What bullshit are they going to focus on? That middle 60% of voters that are trying to be rational, trying to actually think about varying viewpoints, trying to compromise...what are they going to be fixated on, to push them AWAY from a party? The 2024 POTUS election should have chilled Democrats blood, and caused them to really take inventory, and make fundamental changes. It sure seems like the opposite has happened.
If McMurt is right, and the Dems move even further left, and follow that with nominating AOC, or another Harris attempt... JD Vance will destroy them. Marco Rubio will be next in line. Maybe Congress stays fairly close, maybe the Democrats take it back in some fashion... but we've seen how important, and impactful having the Presidency is, and can be.
Andy Beshear, Wes Moore, Gretchen Whitmer, Mark Kelly... these are names of people that could beat Vance or Rubio, I"m sure there are others. They champion many progressive and liberal issues, but don't fully cater to and lead from the woke ones. You've been asking for the Republicans to do the right thing for over 10 years... how about you all step up and do it yourselves? Voters like me are dying for it.

She's got a fucking law degree from Notre Dame. Came you name another female wiht a law degree from Notre Dame? Who likely came up in a wildly different time of gender politics to become successful?
Goat, I don't think she tried real hard to be successful. I think she's trying real hard playing activist, which doesn't pay well. The thing that pisses me off is she took on this debt. She got all the degrees and now is like "nah, fuck hard work - i'll just bitch about it being unfair". Wut?
I'm not talking about why she's a socialist. I'm talking about why people might vote for her. Why they might find socialism attractive.
I get that. Our last three elections have been Trump/Biden/Trump. We've proven the American electorate is only slightly better than Brazil.Because the rise of the DSA is the left version of maga populism. Amy Comey Barrett and Malat Kiros obtained essentially the same education and qualifications at nearly the same moment in their lives. One worked her ass off to become a Supreme Court justice (eventually) and the other spent five minutes working and was like "fuck this, I'd rather just bitch about everything and tell everybody we're doomed if we don't embrace Karl Marx"
Strange.

This post & the comparison you make is a perfect microcosm of the two parties today…

I don't think it's strange at all. Amy was born in the U.S. and has a different value system than like Malat who was born in Central Africa, or , Asia, or wherever.
Look, everyone loves to ignore the obvious and just call people racists or nativists or whatever, but people outside the U.S. lean a lot more to the left, on average, than Americans. It takes, at least, several generations for people to change their values in that area. This shit isn't complicated. If you moved my American a#% to some Europoor socialist hellhole, I'd be a far far far right winger. Eventually, my grandkids or great grandkids would probably end up sh#t libs. And then I would rise from the grave and smack the sh#t out of them.

@goat hard disagree. The rise of DSA loons stems from these do-nothings realizing that all the leftist bullshit they were taught in college is lies and are pissed that they’d actually have to do real work to succeed in this country.
In other words, join and perpetuate the grift.
Yeah, but haven't the do-nothing loons always been taught "leftist bullshit" in college?@goat hard disagree. The rise of DSA loons stems from these do-nothings realizing that all the leftist bullshit they were taught in college is lies and are pissed that they’d actually have to do real work to succeed in this country.
.
@bulk-vh depends what you mean by “always.” It’s turned even harder left in the past decades. Again it’s likely more of the “why should I have to work?” self-selection of the Left.

You think the only people who vote for these candidates are young disillusioned college grad liberals?
Seriously, guys, the Average Joe is hurting right now. Has been for years. Actually, for decades, but it's been really sharpening since Covid. He's scrambling to find anything to latch onto. MAGA got his attention. But his problems continue, and now he's disillusioned. He's not really up on his political or economic theory, he's just looking for answers. And the easiest answer is always going to be, "Look, it's not your fault, it's someone else's, and I'm going to do something about it." That's what MAGA said to him, and it's pretty much what the DSA is saying to him, too.
Joe Bloggs suffered the same pain, and look what he did. Bounced from the Tories to moderate Labour, and now, finding himself still hurting, is flying alternatively left to more radical Labour or even the Greens, and right to Reform. None of it makes much ideological sense. Because it's not about ideology. It's about making sense of his place in the world. Simplifying it in such a way that he can convince himself, "Okay, now things will change for the better."
Thinking he's looking seriously at socialist candidates because he just wants some freebies is no more useful than thinking he bought his red Trump hat because he was sick of all them darkies. He's not looking for ideology. He's looking for someone to tell him that the American Dream isn't dead.

All that you say about people hurting may be true, but Dems aren’t selling a version of the American Dream that anyone can work hard & achieve your dream, unless I’ve missed it. They’re selling the Robin Hood tale & the entire message is about taking more from the rich to give to the poor, whether it’s to immigrants, illegals, urban blacks, etc. That’s always been the Dem audience, but due to immigration that audience makes up a much greater portion of the electorate, which was always the goal of the Biden admin’s negligence on enforcing border policy…
@goat second hard disagree, Goat. Rural and suburban blue collar workers are not turning to these loons. They are working and are over-taxed and underpaid. DSAs wont fix that and they’re smart enough to know that.
It’s the urban do-nothings who think they’re smarter than everybody and can’t figure out for the life of them why the real world isn’t rewarding their genius that they are trying to bestow on all of us. We should just shut up and be grateful because they went to NYU and majored in psych and it’s the rich’s fault (or to many it’s still the white male’s fault) that their genius isn’t being rewarded.
good lord, Goat, even the NY Times agrees with me.
The worker-less “working” party.

I agree with your post for the most part. I do think there is a subset of the MAGA faithful who replacement theory - and by extension racism and xenophobia - is a core belief for them. I don't know how consequential of a number it will be, but there will be some people who vote against their own general interests because of this.
A litmus test for all of this will be the Ohio gubernatorial race. There is some worry from the Ohio Republicans that being a dark-skinned Hindu will keep some of the MAGA voting block home in November. He's been getting lots of questions about his religion on the campaign trail.
All that said, I do think the number or people still wanting to believe in the American Dream outweighs the group I'm talking about. I'm just not sure yet.
Because the rise of the DSA is the left version of maga populism.
Is it? Really? The most conspicuous commonality of these democrat “socialists” is not domestic economics but Jew hate and constant screams of Israeli genocide and a terrible US mistake in going war. Dems have said Iran is stronger than before the war and they have Trump over a barrel now.. We know time is on Iran’s side and Trump is allowing them to play that card.
The conspiratorial part of my brain tells me that if you dig far enough, you’ll find Iranian money and influence in these campaigns.
