That was the only way it was going to happen. With Ecuador's defense, it had to be on a counter.

@aloha-hoosier Jesus what a horrible post. @bulk-vh is there not anything you can do to preserve the sanctity of this thread and restrict who can post.  At this rate Marv will end up finding his way over here. At that point just lock it.

You should be grateful I even looked at this soccer thread. I generally don't. I haven't even clicked on THE BEAUTIFUL GAME thread because I don't generally care about soccer at all. The exceptions are Indiana Soccer and the World Cup. I was at IU when IU won its first national championship and I've seen every championship since and even watch when they're playing for Big Ten championships. I watch the World Cup hoping the US will win. I'll say, if they do that soccer will really explode in the US. Tons of kids play soccer and more and more people are fans. I'm cool with that and think it's great.

Ecuador was outplayed in the second half. I know they had a couple of chances, but Ivory Coast was superior front-to-back in the second 53 minutes. Diamonde was a menace out there!

Diamonde is something special.

Pretty much every single sport. They just call them other things like "the mid-inning break" and "TV timeout" and so forth.

@goat periods. Quarters.

it’s kind of Fing up the integrity of the game.  45 minutes. No help. No talk. No break in momentum.  That’s part of the game

I get it when it's truly hot. But, when you are playing in Vancouver in the evening, I don't think it's necessary.

Hey, I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment. I remember when you could watch a baseball game in 2 hours. I'm just saying it's not unique. It's just that soccer had to find a unique way to do it.

In other words, they have hydration breaks during the World Cup because there are commercials during hydration breaks.

Oh yea, it's as much to make money as it is player safety. Baseball games are quicker now than they have been in a long time. Football and basketball are brutally slow.

Euros falling in love with America and the south is absolutely hilarious to follow on social media.

A shame, that the western press is often keen on painting America and Americans as uninviting and inhospitable. Even dangerous.

Hospitality? In middle America?! We could have never imagined.

I'm not going to derail this thread with politics, like you've interjected, but I will interject it with FUCK OFF

Telemundo is not going to commercials and many countries in Europe also are not. But Fox...

Also, I swear I read something about a Youth National match in the last week or so that said they were playing 4 30 minute quarters...that's 120 minutes!  Maybe it was wrong. Maybe it was something special/different.  I'll see if I can find something about it.

EDIT: Found it.  It was a U-20 Friendly with Japan, so just an opportunity to evaluate more players.

@gros-louis my minion and I were at the elite academy national championships over the weekend for a little bit.  No hydration breaks.

the younger groups didn’t play full 45 minute halves.  They were playing as short as 25 minutes
