Yeah, but for an inch, though...that late cross by Uruguay with the keeper already on the ground, the man was there. Ball just snuck under his foot. All he had to do was get a toe on it, and it didn't matter which direction it went, it would have been the winner.

So far, I think this World Cup has been an overwhelming success - especially for the U.S. and other host countries (particularly Mexico). I don't know what the coverage has been like in other countries, but it has been incredible seeing the experiences of fans from other countries and the comradery being displayed. Who anticipated thousands of Scots marching from a statue of Robert Burns to Fenway Park, being led by bagpipers? (Hell, who knew Boston had a statue of Robert Burns?) Or the growing love between the fans of Mexico and Japan? Talk about an odd couple.
Yes, some of the gameplay and matches could have been better. But even there we've seen some stunning upsets/draws. Besides, with 48 teams everyone knew there would be blowouts. Of course the matches will get better in the knockout rounds and most of the cream will rise to the top.
Even better is the way the USMNT has played thus far. Sure, most are not surprised they've won their first two games and should win the next. But clearly their play has exceeded expectations.
Only thing I don't like is the fact that the closest site to Cincinnati is Atlanta (7 hour drive).

Far fewer blowouts than expected tbh. Finishing not great, as mcm pointed out earlier. But, for Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, etc. to draw?
