Why does the comment section sometimes disappear?

Why does the comment section sometimes disappear when I try to post or edit a post? For me, this time is the basketball portal thread.

If I try to comment, I get the topic title bar only, and not this text box that I am typing in now.

Sometimes the comment text box reappears in the future. More often it seems to remain that way, per thread. Like now I can comment in other threads, or post new topics. But in the BB portal thread I get only the title bar so can't comment or edit my old comments.

This is not new, it's pretty much always happened since site inception, random and not too frequent, but I do not see a thread explaining it. Do I somehow change my view settings? If a thread explains it, just point me there, TY.

I use mainly firefox, sometimes Chrome.

In either Chrome (tried just now) or Firefox, I notice now there's a little spinning wheel of dots in the upper right that never resolves when I attempt to reply in the threads where it doesn't work. So something is blocking.

No big deal, I'll post in the threads that work, plenty of those, most.

It's usually caused by people quoting an outrageous amount of responses in one and it just pushes everything down. I'll clear the forum cache again

I always make an attempt to trim them, in mine. But, I am starting by quoting the 8 deep quotes, before I trim it down to one persons comment, so maybe the same effect?  I guess I can use reply and cut and paste a quote into it.

Seems global, nobody else has commented in that thread for over 4 days. I still just get a spinning wheel of dots even not quoting anybody.

Thank you.

If you just want to quote the last post in a thread, simply highlight that message -- it will show up in red and a big quote mark will show below. Click that quote mark and you're all set.

Yes, that works. Simpler. Thx.

I guess I usually do what I see people asking others to do, and trim the multiquotes. I leave only the quote markup for one. But must be that is the same effect as quoting them all. Dont know.

Anyway, as instructed earlier I posted on a different page for the frozen ones. Worked.
