Halftime thoughts
Indiana 0, Northwestern 0
Indiana is getting good looks, but nothing to show for it yet. The Hoosiers lead 6-5 in shots and have had four corners to Northwestern’s one, but neither team has put a shot on goal. A few thoughts through the first 45.
Indiana is doing a good job getting forward, but the final touch just hasn’t been there. Bogard played a great ball over the top to Heuer for IU’s first shot, and Kinsella later sent a ball through with nobody there to get on the end of it. Good opportunities, just nothing coming from them.
OMJ is making things happen. He helped get Oduro open for a shot that was blocked, then had a couple chances himself. Carnevale made a great hustle play to steal possession from behind and start a move through Bogard to OMJ, but he couldn’t connect cleanly on the volley. His spinning volley later in the half had some serious power behind it, but that one went high too.
Northwestern’s Peter Riesz is not afraid to let it fly. He launched two shots from way out, with the first catching the crossbar. IU’s defense has mostly held strong, but that was easily the biggest scare of the half.
Mroz continues to look comfortable coming out and grabbing balls in the air. If he were in Madden, he’d have the “Sure Hands” attribute. He’s done a good job taking those opportunities away before Northwestern can get anything going.
Indiana has had some good stretches. Now it needs to turn those into shots that actually test the keeper.
