@ribbont depends.

Metrics wise it would be a very good win. A Q1 road game thats pretty safe to stay Q1. UK might be scuffling now with some injuries but they'll probably get healthy and finish decent.

Perception-wise? I duno. I think it might ease a little angst. Its not as if IU has many wins at Rupp over the years.

We talked about this on this week's podcast. The fanbase is very hesitant to buy into this team right now, the people who are either checked out or on the fence may check in during this game because it's IU-UK. A win would do a lot to build up some equity in the fan base, especially with that group.

Any more, I don't know that I represent the average IU fan, but historically? Heck yes. A win at Rupp in prime time on national TV? Yes, I believe as far as IU fans go, that would more than offset a loss at the barn.

By my count, IU is 1-8 all-time at Rupp Arena with a lone win in 88.

After the last two bad hires and this hire being meh its going to take alot more than a win at kentucky to get me to fully  buy in again. I have been watching some but just watching no real emotion anymore for the bbal team. Just far too many  seasons of disappointment over the last 20 years to get someone excited right now.

@arioznahoosier4554 Thanks for posting. I don't think you're the only one with that sort of mindset either. I am not saying it would bring everyone back, but it will increase interest with some. I understand you need to see more.

In my book, absolutely would make up for a Minnie loss. Always tough to win there.

I don't even care if it moves the needle much on our rating because they started this year down. Beating UK is always great.

It would get me on board. But I am anyway, because as long as we look coached and are improving I'm all in. I'm not going to withhold my fandom based on any current year talent. What then, jump on the bandwagon after we're really good? I did have trouble getting myself to tune in to the Woodson teams, because the last couple years I no longer had much hope of improvement.

Beat Kentucky!

To me... its all about what we look like in all these games.  My biggest concern coming out of the Minny game wasn't necessarily that we lost the game.  Its how we looked while losing that game.  And then how we looked at the start of the Louisville game.  Startlingly unathletic and uninspired.  But then the last 2/3 of the LVille game happened, and then the PSU game happened.

So... if we come out and play physical, move the ball well, run the offense, and just end up losing to a Kentucky team that's quite obviously more talented, overall, than we are.  That'll hit differently than if we lose because we look unathletic, and uninspired.

So... to directly answer the question... would a win over UK makeup for the Minny loss?  Yes.  But I think how we play and look is more important than the final outcome.  Easy to say before the game though.  Getting a win down there would likely feel huge, no matter how it would happen or look.

Yes.  It would put our record right where everyone thought it would be at this point.

I had no idea what our record would be given the whole team is new.  If we do not shoot close to 40% from three tomorrow we will likely lose. The whole season will clearly ride on three's going in.

Which is fine. Thats what they are supposed to do. Is that a high percentage. Yes. But we are built that way.

We've been favored in every game but UK and UL.

So we have:

Win -- Super!

"Good" loss -- I can live with it

"Bad" loss -- Bummer

Two out of three ain't bad.
