What can we expect from Drake and Harris, if they stay?

@hoosiers94 Not to be "both sides" but I agree also, it doesn't change the fundamental big picture. This team and season was not good. But if we had made the tournament, at least we could be talking about that, for another week or so. Would have been something. Not much, but a little better.

@arioznahoosier4554 I don't act as if anything... I'm only talking about IU.  Any other school that had injuries, has legitimate questions about how their seasons would have been different if they hadn't had them.  Minnesota for sure included in that.  But Minnesota wasn't one win away from an NCAA at large, like IU was, to be fair on the comparisons.

Minnesota did not have two injuries they had six injuries including starters. If you take wilkerson or tucker out with injury we are not one game away. These two injured guys would not have changed anything drake was a late addition ranked like 550th I doubt he would even have played.

@arioznahoosier4554 Depth was an issue for us, especially in the post.  Adding another body in Harris... I can't see how it would have hurt, and its pretty likely it would have helped.  Drake, maybe he ends up helping when Conerway was out?  Or maybe in the games where Enright got in early foul trouble?

Its just an assumption on my part.  I don't KNOW how it would have went with Harris and/or Drake.  I just think its a pretty safe call having them would have been better than not having them, especially Harris.

We will never know just like we will never know if we would of won the title if Alan Henderson did not get hurt. The bottom line is they missed the tourney and that is all anyone will remember. Next year better be alot better the excuses are not going to fly.

I am not saying it will be it never is I am just saying its going to be alot harder to keep selling the same excuses after the second year. I suppose new ones could be created though.

The obvious upside to the Drake and Harris medical redshirts is that Indiana and they are both open and willing to playing next season for a "market discount" to prove themselves.

Thus making more cash available for whatever elite portal talent can be attracted.

It's a potential win/win.

Market discount? Good luck with that one in this day and age of NIL the prices only go up each year and never down it appears.

It's widely known Braden Smith gave up several million this season to return to Purdue.   TKR gave up 7 figures in NIL as well this past season coming out of his over achieving junior season.

Danny Wolf took a huge discount to play at Michigan last season.

Just a couple examples.

Getting a medical redshirt discount from a mid major up transfer is not a big reach imo

Great coaches will always look to exploit the market.   Cignetti is hands down #1 in this space.

Smith is on a good team probably alot easier to give up money when you know you can make a serious NCAA run. Same at Michigan. Jusy saying probably a harder sell at a program not making the tourney

I'm in the Harris boat that 5-10 minutes doesn't get them in.  Bailey was an overall disappointment but had his moments. Whose to say Harris wouldn't taken Bailey's good moments. Players can always surprise but I see him if staying battling to earn a role off bench next year.  Most likely, he didn't show enough to take Bailey minutes and there was joint decision to go the redshirt route to keep 3 years eligibilty be it at IU or elsewhere.
