Just checked bracketology on ESPN and as of right now they have us as the last team in.  I have a hard time seeing it. Tough schedule coming up and the team really needs to build on the Purdue win to beat some teams we probably didn't expect to beat going into the season. We've looked so bad against teams like Michigan, Louisville, Iowa, etc... I don't know if the committee looks at that- we were not remotely competitive in those games. With 4 tough road games still left (plus @OSU), we need to steal at least 1 of them and hold home court, including the MSU game.

That choke job against Nebraska is a real killer right now. That would have been a huge win.  I know Nebraska is a really good team, but to blow that lead in the 2nd half, at home... can't do that.

Sitting her today and projecting out our record for the rest of the year, I don't think we'll get in. Feels likely that we'll go 4-6 down the stretch- lose all 5 roadies and drop the home game to MSU. That's 18-13 heading into the BTT. Won't be good enough. But, we have a chance to play ourselves into the dance by continuing to play like we did against Purdue and in the 1st half against Nebraska. I just don't think it'll happen.

SI.com has us as one of the last 4 out, but that was last updated before the Purdue game, so who knows.  I saw something the other day, also before the Purdue game, forget which site, that didn't have us on either the last 4 out or the next 4 out.  We were nowhere to be found... so who knows!

I am shocked with only one actual good win to be on the bubble. The bubble must be as weak as it has ever  been.  I dont not see anyway this team wins at Illinois or Purdue. Probably need to win at UCLA and beat Michigan State at home bare minimum.  The problem is this team usually can only put one good half of play in vs the better teams. On the road that will not cut it.

Not really a shock.  Still on track to go .500 in a good Big Ten.  We were 8-12 during the Romeo year and would've made it had we not lost that play in game against OSU in the BTT who was also 8-12.

What were your expectations heading into the season?

I think this is where there's a disconnect among fans, at least regarding this season. You'd consider '25-'26 a success if the Hoosiers went dancing, which is a completely understandable expectation. That obviously wouldn't be a bad thing, but a 10-seed and one and done is 'meh' at best-- for me--given IU's resources. I don't expect Cig-like results or anything of the sort, but a top third finish in the B1G and the potential to make an NCAAT run is what I'd consider a successful season. I just don't see this team doing either.

Moreover, I don't really buy into the 'brand new team' nonsense. Most major P4 programs have an overhauled roster to some degree, so it's not unchartered territory. You CAN win right away.

As for DK's potential to win big at IU, many people have a 'wait and see' approach. Totally valid. I, for one, don't think he has the goods. Better than Archie and Woody? Absolutely. 'The guy?' No ... imo. That said, I don't think he's going to flame out at IU like the previous two clowns did, but I don't see the Hoosiers getting anywhere near the promised land with Knob.

Lastly, I think those who ask, 'What program-changing coach is out there?' have a point. Perhaps DK is the best IU could do. Stevens was never coming. May was already at Michigan. McCollum chose a better situation for him, etc. But ... you can't tell me Beard wouldn't have jumped at the chance. I don't think he's a basketball genius like some do--and I was very much opposed to him during the search--but I'd feel much better about the program's future if he were in Bloomington instead of Oxford.

I hope the Beard fantasy dies at some point. He's stinking it up this season and yes, he had/has excellent NIL there. If he was here with the team he bought down there with those results, why would anybody be super excited? Yeah, he has a track record but so what.  There is a reason he's buried in Miss. after we just saw a half dozen+ major programs have openings.

@surjay I agree Beard is overrated to some degree; he wouldn't be anywhere near my first choice. But I'd take him over Knob.

I don't see "it" with DeVries, but I hope he makes me look like a fool.

Beard would be arrested on Kirkwood a week after getting hired.

I just don’t get the negative stuff about DD? We all wished for:

no weirdo- ✅

a coach to recruit hs kids- ✅

want to see a team improve throughout the season✅

rebuild the culture✅

build a team that fits, not just pay for rankings✅

I’ll like DD and support him till I don’t!

I haven’t been on this board for weeks, but this is damn depressing. We have a new coach who had to put together an entire new team. We knew there were holes, without a true big man. Obviously criticism is fine, but we actually have a derogatory nickname for him on this board? Sorry, but I think that’s pretty pathetic. And the guy some of you are pining for is currently 11-10? Make it make sense.

I said it last year during the search and will again until an IU hire proves me wrong. Beard would kill it at IU. Should have been the first and only phone call. Admin doesn't have the guts to make the correct call on the BBall program. May was available. Stevens was available. Nope wait another year and miss out every dam time. Beard was a no brainer if IU wanted to win. They obviously prefer to keep pandering to the pc crowd.

A no brainer that UK, UofL, Mich all passed on. A no brainer who's going to have a losing record this year.

so you'll discount that ,last year they went to the sweet 16 and went 24-11 at Ole Miss the SEC basketball juggernaut.  How much NIL share you think basketball gets there ?  No where near what IU basketball gets.  So is this year disappointing sure. But it isn't the full picture.  2 time coach of the year and a championship game appearance in 2019.

yes he's had some issues off the court those are behind him.  Point is he's got a record at a higher level than DD.  That said he would not have been on the top of my list but I don't discount him because of this one season due to his past experience at power 4 level.

I'll wait for your hole punching to begin

We've already talked about his NIL. Its top 5 in SEC. At least 7 million. No excuses for a losing record this year. His past is also not behind him since he's drunk on campus nearly nightly.

Higher than that.  Beat USC and it would take an epic collapse to miss out.

Ole Miss has about the same we do for our roster, top-5 in the SEC is serious money.

#76 in the NET right now.

and you know this how ?

and you've still not addressed his past success such as last year.

Where have you seen the 7m published. Honest question I don't seem to find it anywhere.

and again he wasn't top on my list but I would have gambled on him over DD

Its well known he has many skeletons in his closet. There is a reason he's rotting away in Miss. and no big programs have touched him. You can find videos of him drunk stumbling around and babbling on camera. its no secret.  Ole Miss is top 5 in SEC for basketball NIL. Hell, their transfer class was ranked 1 spot below IUs last year. He had 8 transfers in, most of them 4 stars. You think he did that with pennies?

I don't care what he's done in the past, he's going to have a losing record this year. Don't act like you'd support an IU coach with a losing record. We all know you wouldn't.
