@hurryinghoosiers Looking at the past decade of draft picks:
-2018 - Round 1, Pick 23 - Aaron Holiday (UCLA) - he's still in the league and has a role with the Rockets
-2018 - Round 2, Pick 50 - Alize Johnson (Missouri State) - played nearly 80 games in the NBA, that's not bad for a 2nd round pick
-2019 - Round 1, Pick 18 - Goga Bitadze (Europe) - 362 games in the NBA and is still a rotation piece and part-time starter for the Magic...good pick
-2019 - Round 2, Pick 50 - Jarrell Brantley - never heard of this guy
-2020 - Round 2, Pick 54 - Cassis Stanley - played in 33 games but nothing remotely noteworthy
-2021 - Round 1, Pick 13 - Chris Duarte - played in 177 games with a -3.0 BPM...bust
-2021 - Round 2, Pick 54 - Sandro Mamukelashvili - played in 246 games and had positive advanced metrics, that's a good 2nd round pick
-2022 - Round 1, Pick 6 - Benedict Mathurin - played in 242 games so far and is going to be in the league a long time. Positive pick.
-2022 - Round 2, Pick 31 - Andrew Nembhard - really good second round pick
-2023 - Round 1, Pick 26 - Ben Sheppard - still TBD but it looks like a suboptimal pick
-2023 - Round 2, Pick 55 - Isaiah Wong - only 21 career games
-2024 - two late 2nd round picks
-2025 - late 2nd round pick
So, I'd say Holiday was a fine pick, Bitadze was a very good mid-round pick, Duarte was a bust while Mamukelashvili was a good 2nd round pick, Mathurin was a good but not great pick, Andrew Nembhard was a very good pick, Ben Sheppard looks like a bust but it was late first. I don't how much Carr was in charge of and he has drawn universal praise for his work...in short, I don't think it's fair to the Pacers draft like crap given the position they are typically in within the draft.

Nembhard being the only one that has done well with the pacers.
You can say mathurin netted us trade value but also had 2 more firsts stolen in the trade so hard to say his trade value for the pacers was very high if we had to include the picks. Forget who we got for bitadze but he did little with the pacers.
Carr would also have been with the pacers when they made the tj leaf joke of a pick when OG was still available and an obvious choice even at time of the draft . That alone is worthy of termination
Pacers/Hoosiers "dual citizenship" for Haliburton? It's not like the NCAA would stop it, nor would that human Q-Tip Adam Silver.
@gthomas Redefine the meaning of a 2-way contract.
You also have to look at the guy's trades with Siakim, Toppin, Hali, and Nesmith. I like the hire. Hopefully a voice of reason and a trusted adviser who can talk to players about what the next step requires while knowing what the program means and it's history.

I realize a GM-type position exists at many colleges these days, so it's a wise move. I do, though, wonder if this is a reaction to DD's poor roster construction. It doesn't really matter, but I'd be curious to know if that played a role.
In any case, this can only help, as it allows DD to focus all his energy on coaching. I think this is no small thing for IU basketball.
Both can be true I think. DDV/Dolson mentioned getting a GM in place last year and seemingly were working on it but it never came together. Maybe they felt like they needed to make a big move now before the off-season hits.
No more excuses
The number of people who think they can evaluate Carr based on some draft picks that he may/may not have advocated for, is hilarious. There's much more that went into his job and he's widely respected to have been very good at that job.
Would imagine agents are pressuring their CBB clients to make unannounced portal decisions earlier and earlier in Jan and Feb.
Also imagine the agent/handler and school conversations behind the scenes really pick up steam in early Feb.
Hoping this next 6 to 8 weeks in the portal really goes well for the evaluation of potential portal adds.
Lastly, I really liked how the Pacers played offensive basketball last season so if the vision is aligned the hope is that much of the positive attributes we see offensively with Devries can be supercharged quickly.
I truly hope QB didn't have a thing to do with this ... he is the Pacers analyst
I think IU has a good chance with the Portal. Who wouldn't want to shoot with impunity and have no defensive expectations?
Never thought of that.I truly hope QB didn't have a thing to do with this ... he is the Pacers analyst
Shit...
SHIT!
Well, even a blind squirrel can find an acorn. Ill go with that.

The basketball community has many fine endorsements for Carr. I'll wait to evaluate him after he's been in the job for a year or two.
Next season's roster will tell us a lot. If you buy the argument that this season's roster is so flawed that you cannot judge the coach's actual basketball coaching performance from it, then we'll see if getting him help to build a better roster gets him players that he can coach. I'm not entirely convinced. Yes, a player can be "uncoachable" but a whole roster of them? As Seniors?

If the argument being used that says he was hired too late to put a good roster together is indeed true we should expect a killer portal class and a team that should challenge for the sweet sixeteen next season. That would be my expectation if this season is really due to the fact he was too late in recruiting and has nothing at all to do with his coaching. There should be zero excuses next season he has all spring now to build a roster.
