Haven't the pacers drafted like **** though? Pacers traded for most of the good players that are on the team.
@hurryinghoosiers Portal recruitments are a little more like trades, in my opinion, in terms of how they're evaluated. HS and foreign born high school age kids are a little more like drafting. If he had any input in the Hali, Siakam, Nesmith trades, he likely has a pretty good handle on production and value, which is essential for the portal market, and making NIL decisions.
This actually screams that DD is in over his head. How anyone with an ounce of basketball acumen thought this roster would work is beyond me. Hard to imagine a dude with a cush job in the NBA jumping on this rapidly sinking ship, but I guess time will tell. And before anyone starts yelling "he knows pros" and that stuff, the head coach is still the kingpin. If he sucks, the whole thing sucks. Former manager or not, I'm skeptical as hell at this point.
@hurryinghoosiers Absolutely. Pretty similar to the Colts, except they make bad trades too.
Lest I be accused of being a sunshine pumper, if it's the case that CDD got a late start on a weak portal with a low budget then maybe he did the best he could. This could be a signal that the coach has realized that he needs a significant boost in resources to build the next roster and this is part of the AD committing to do that. We'll find out soon enough.

If Bailey was as good as some thought, then we'd be singing a different tune. I think IU is a good big away from being a sweet 16 team. We all know it took forever for DD to hire a coaching staff, and their were some late rejections. By the time that happened the portal was essentially done. Priority should've been coaches IMO. If anything it shows his willingness to adapt. It's not the first time we've seen that this season. We know Big Foot and Archie wouldn't do that.
I still wonder if we put stock into actually getting Bidunga, then it was too late. But maybe it was only internet talk by some of us hopeful fans.
He would've crushed it here, for what we need. He seems to be doing well for #14 Kansas.
,
@openwheel Yeah, wonder if DD thought he had him and then had to scramble.
I realize a GM-type position exists at many colleges these days, so it's a wise move. I do, though, wonder if this is a reaction to DD's poor roster construction. It doesn't really matter, but I'd be curious to know if that played a role.
In any case, this can only help, as it allows DD to focus all his energy on coaching. I think this is no small thing for IU basketball.
Lasley says Carr's focus will be roster building. He's gonna be a huge boost.
@auburnhoosier Among the many issues I had with Woodson, at the top of the list was his arrogant, know-it-all stubbornness and unwillingness to change. I'm tired of the coaching carousel over the last quarter of a century and would like to see DeVries have a little time to do the job. From every indication he seems to be a decent guy that is willing to do what's necessary to make IU basketball again relevant. He was hired on March 18 of last year, had to assemble a coaching staff and roster in very limited time. If the current team could in some way gets into the NCAA tournament, the season would have been a successful one for me personally.
@dbmhoosier LOL Lasley didn’t say squat. That was literally written in a press release from IU. If he’s selling that as his own analysis you should ask for your money back..

I've never given him a dime. Just reading his X post.
