What You Need to Know About IU Basketball Today
1. IU Commit Chase Branham On Campus Again
For the second time in three weeks, top 25 2027 commit (247Sports) Chase Branham will be in Bloomington. Branham plans on being at the IU football game this weekend as he takes advantage of his recent move to La Lumiere. The 6'4" guard has had a fantastic summer and should benefit from playing with the La Lumiere Lakers on the EYBL circuit for his senior season.
2. Minnesota Hoping to Add Cade Tyson
In IU opponent news, Minnesota is hoping they just got significantly stronger. After a stellar senior season, Cade Tyson announced that he is returning to Niko Medved and the Gophers for another season. Of course, he needs a judge to grant him eligibility and how that plays out is anyone's guess but if he joins with transfer Kyan Evans and a decent supporting corps, Minnesota will have a real chance to make their first NCAA Tournament since 2019.

The eyes of the sports world will be on Seattle tonight as the NFL regular season kicks off. The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks are first up. Hoosier Huddle will have coverage of former Hoosiers that have moved on to the NFL all season long.
Thought of the Day
I have seen a lot of Chase Branham games and highlights. The 6'4" guard committed to IU in September of 2025 and he's been on the radar for Darian DeVries for longer than that. Branham is a fantastic basketball player and I don't think I am as excited for him as I have been any incoming recruit since Romeo Langford. Of course, we won't see him on the court wearing candy stripes until next fall. Which current freshman are you most excited to see play for the 2026-2027 Hoosiers?
@tjinman1987 Nice TJ, throwing out Romeo to get some action on this thread...... This is a cop out answer to your question, but I'm just excited for the class, overall. With the 3 main recruits, I think we have very capable, very versatile, and very solid basketball players. Each of them bring something we needed. So it'll be interesting to see how they mesh with, and/or overtake, some of the older transfers. Sokolov... per a post yesterday about us looking at another German big for the next class... I hope Sokolov is better, and the staff gets more out of him, than Amicovic last year.

Bat Signal for @cavanagh

@iunorth I have been told Sokolov is significantly ahead physically of where Acimovic was when he arrived on campus. The bar is basically on the ground but I do think Clemens Sokolov comfortably clears the impact (or lack thereof) that Acimovic had. In addition, with the "5 for 5" rule coming into effect, redshirts no longer exist and I think that will really benefit someone like Sokolov. In theory, he can get on the court for valuable time in blowouts and gain some experience.
@tjinman1987 hadn't thought of that aspect...or had forgotten it. It blew my mind that Amicovic literally never played... but the redshirt thing obviously could explain that. Just a general concern over bringing in foreign, developmental, bigs, if they're not good enough to crack the lineup in any significant fashion. I guess it wouldn't be a concern just for foreign bigs, but obviously they're in a little different situation, and many are looking for different things, than non elite American born bigs are.
Yeah, maybe the idea was to redshirt Acimovic and then Coach DeVries either lowballed the NIL after a season of seeing him practice and told him he's expected to be deep bench, or just said 'naw'.
I read that Missouri State (Cuonzo Martin) signed him in June.
And, fingers crossed... You know he'll be getting bigger and bigger monetary offers if he's blowing up like you report.Of course, we won't see him on the court wearing candy stripes until next fall.
Hopefully his good relationship with Coach DeVries and staff keeps him in the fold! I am optimistic of course that he's a Hoosier.
