Bryson was one guy I was hopeful might stay. Hope he does well. I was wrong on Carlyle, I really thought he was going to be something. Hope he improves and does well though.
"Tucker, Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo, Rice, Carlyle… " When you see just the names, looks like a strong team. Sad.
Carlyle scored 19 for Florida Atlantic in a win v. Boston College.Bryson was one guy I was hopeful might stay. Hope he does well. I was wrong on Carlyle, I really thought he was going to be something. Hope he improves and does well though.

Tucker hit thee 3s in a game in one minute of court time for Washington the other night.
@dbmhoosier Tucker was VERY good. Remember when I said I loved him after he told woody to go F himself? We had so much talent last year. Seriously woody should never be allowed back in the hall. He makes Crean look like the Red Auerbach and Archie like coach K.
thats the problem. Every time we have a new fire, IU fans feel like anyone would be so much better. I wish I could go back and see what people were saying about Woody early on after we got rid of that awful coach before him (miller). Etc., etc.
@gerdis I said "C+ hire"... I openly worried about his lack of college experience. And then about 1 game in to his tenure, I started in on his system being bad.
I enjoyed some of the early successes. I tried to be optimistic at various times his first few years. I tried to build cases on the old site for the good things he was doing. But if I'm true to what I was actually feeling, I knew he wasn't the guy early on in his first season.

yeah, I remember. But, a good chunk of folks thought since he went to the tourney the first 2 years that he was outperforming miller during his first two years. Digging down into some ratings and it was clear that it wasn’t the improvement that was the narrative on that other site. My point isn’t that MW was good. My point was that people had such a bad taste in their mouthes from miller that there was sunshine pumping on MW. Everything is relative. And now the newest stink to rinse off is MW. Our new coach will get the sunshine treatment, at least for now, because he is a breath of fresh air.
the only question is how long it will last.
@gerdis From some he will. Unlike Woodson though, DeVries has already shown what kind of college coach he is. Combine that with the style we're seeing them play, thus far...and I'd say what some will say is sunshine pumping, is just as much stating obvious things that are better. TJD buoyed quite a lot of Woodson's accomplishments, metrics, etc... And he did it despite Woodson short changing his overall potential, by how he played him. Its hard to envision that happening in this CDD system.
Its incredibly early. But by now in Woodson year 1, I was already posting about how I didn't like the post centric, and ISO approach the exhibitions and 1st game showed. I couldn't be more happy with the style CDD is implementing.
It was never a talent issue.

with MW not being proven at the college coaching level, I think the optimism was:
1. Juwan Howard. (Who I always felt was way overrated). There was an early buzz around him and the NBA coaching path / model.
2. The Fife / Matta “thing”
both 1-2 were reasons for concern, red flags if you will. But, for people wanting to believe that things had to be WAY better just by getting rid of Miller, they were reasons to be optimistic.
early on, MW was getting accolades for his personality compared to the emotionless Miller. We had a down to earth coach that could relate to the players. Even his interviews drew early rave reviews. Ironic seeing as how things ended up.
@dbmhoosier gross we are gonnnhavw like 4 all conference former players.

Myles Rice with 19 points and 7 rebounds tonight.

Dont forget Larry Brown counseling.
I for one hated the hire. I wanted Alford which might also not have been real good but better than Bigfoot.

I'm glad it was Woody over Alford although it's obvious neither should've ever been considered. Alford would've done just enough to stay the coach for 10-15 years and we never would've gotten more than a Sweet 16 out of it. At least Woody is gone now.
@hoosiers94 SpongeBob would have been a better HC than Bigfoot. And Patrick would have been a better assistant than Weekend at Bernie's.
