@gerdis you know I’ll always speak my mind and get em riled up!
@iureactionary Kenpom preseason is garbage. He admits it, to use it as an indicator of how good a team will be is not smart. Where is @tmp when I need him.
i'm not using it as any indicator other than that baylor is a team not devoid of talent.
@iunorth good post.
i put zero stock in winning or losing these games.
i just want to see how the team plays and reacts to adversity.
there are now a couple data points showing that this team is going to be able to score, make free throws, put on defensive pressure to (hopefully) force turnovers and likely not rebound well.
my point in the post was more that you can overcome being outplayed in one factor if you're hyper efficient in the others and iu showed that they can gut out a win even when there is nothing being called from the sidelines.
When we play teams with more size, at least equal athleticism, and also solid shooting, we'll struggle. Size and reach matters if they match us in other ways. But I think we'll beat a lot of teams. Looks like Coach knows ways to deal with limitations and maximize what we do well.
I think Bailey will be fine. Not down on him at all. He's a skilled forward, not a banger, but he'll grab some boards and play defense too. Just because he's a less athletic guy as far as defense doesn't make him a weak player. Nice to have a forward who will find way to score inside or especially 'in between' . I'll bet he has some important buckets for us this year.
Alexis has to play overmatched in size maybe. But he looks like he can handle it. Optimistic about him.
@hooky Mac daddy and Malik will be all conference players.
Neither one is talented enough offensively to overcome their defensive shortcomings and shine. Mac may have some big offensive games, but he's a liability on the defensive end. Malik could end up leading the conference in fouls/minutes played.
Hope they kill it in their new surroundings, but I just don't see it after watching them in 150+ collective games.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

No doubt Dorn and Harris will add to the positives of IUBB this season and fill in some cracks of weakness. They'll all listen intently to Devries to produce their best efforts. That don't happen on lots of teams.
Is there any reason to think we can count on Dorn to be healthy? Lisfranc injury with surgery, and then after months, another one? ... I figure if he becomes a regular in the lineup it'll be a bonus.
What's Harris' injury? I am counting on him for inside presence, he says that's just his game and loves DeVries wanting great defense.
@openwheel It sounded to me like, unless there's been a more recent setback, that Dorn was the closest of the 4 to playing. Hope that's the case!
@tammany we had the worst coach in college basketball history. I could have coached them to the tourney. And I’m not exaggerating.
I mean no program in the country would have hired him, but he went to IU so we did. And we gave him more money than anyone in the country. He had top top NIL money, we were ahead of the curve. Now just top 10-20ish. Not when woody was here we had all the cash he wanted. Blank checks. Disgusting.
You might be right. I don't think we can really calculate how bad Woodson really was.

What a nightmare. Given his connections and resources, our worst coach ever. Even worse than Archie.
@dbmhoosier Tucker was VERY good. Remember when I said I loved him after he told woody to go F himself? We had so much talent last year. Seriously woody should never be allowed back in the hall. He makes Crean look like the Red Auerbach and Archie like coach K.
@cavanagh Tucker, Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo, Rice, Carlyle... Assuming they all enjoy playing the game of basketball... I feel confident that most on this board could have coached that roster to an NCAA tourney berth last year. Heck, I think if they didn't have a coach at all, that they probably would have made the NCAAs. He was worse than non existent. Hard to do.
@iunorth really is mind boggling. Least I never have to see him waddle out on to the floor after a TO for some poor sap to put a chair down with a 10inch cushion so he can plop down like king tut and have the whole team look at him like he’s speaking German.

Don't disrespect the King like that.
@dbmhoosier Classic. Dude is owned by Purdue in state (I don’t care about head to head results) and just finished ranked #90-100 the previous season. The “King.”
I still think it’s funny he joined Sacramento of all teams.
