@hoosiers94 Well it looks like ( I am working on confirming it myself) that IU will be hiring Ryan Carr according to Rabjohns. So, we can put the cutting bait this year to rest. This is also a "we are serious" about basketball move. I have said it millions of times there is NO reason IU can't have a top notch football program and a top notch basketball program.

I would agree. This to me is the University saying 2 things:
1. we will invest what is necessary to have success in basketball
2. We realize we aren't achieving the results we want as of today and need to put more investment in the program. Or rather ..: DD needs help.
Now if he can't make good on it next year, I'd say "stick a fork in him".
So now.. if he fails to get into the tournament I'm wagering he still has a job next year. Minimum. And the university will pivot and say they didn't give him the proper resources... I'm ok with that for another year.
that said I'm still not sold on DD but we will see if he can turn it around with more resources and help.
any idea what they will pay Carr?
@hoosiers94 I have no idea, but it has to be pretty significant to leave an NBA team that should be a contender next year if Hali is 100%
This certainly gives one some hope

Hopefully a good sign that there'll be more investment. As you said in your prior post, he needs whatever it takes to kill this portal cycle or its likely a lame duck staff.
Trilly has also been indicating that he thinks this portal cycle is going to be very weak from everything he's heard so far. That will again have the top guys being targeted by every major program and the also-rans commanding inflated asking prices. They need to do everything possible to navigate that and come out strong.
This hire must come with more NIL. You can’t half ass basketball and expect to be a contender.
@hoosiers94 It sure touches on what I think are the core issues with IU bball the last 30 years. Take it the F seriously! I don't know that CDD was, or wasn't, a serious hire. But really ANY coach, CDD or Brad Stevens alike, really can't be successful without heavy buy in and investment in NIL and other ways to be competitive in today's climate. Hiring someone like Carr away from the Pacers, is one sign that they're hopefully taking the process seriously.

As long as DD actually listens to him. Matta was supposed to calm everyone's nerves on the Woodson hire and he just ignored him. Also, The NIL will need to increase alot not just one or two million. Programs like BYU and Kentucky will have unlimited money every single year now.
so my next question is , why would Carr leave the Pacers and a secure post for what can seemingly be viewed as a demotion of sorts given its down to the college ranks. Or is this position loftier than the position he held at the Pacers? Could it be we are paying him that much more? To me it would have to be a whole lot more to give up that security he had in Indy

The Pacers have a lot of experience in Pritchard and Carlisle. He might be looking to have more input and impact. Hope he finds it at IU. He might be impactful on how to handle the NIL money which is kind of new to college while also providing solid assessments on scouting.
I think Dennis Lindsey would leave the Pistons for the Mavericks where was in the front office as a consultant. Pistons are a serious contender now but Lindsey is a Texas guy that would probably like to move back there. Cuban threw his name out there but new majority ownership may not listen.

Completely different scenarios, though. Woodson was never going to listen to anybody, especially about coaching.
This is about NIL allocations and talent evaluation/acquisition. There'd be no reason for DDV to not listen to him and he almost certainly was part of the vetting process here. Woodson never wanted Matta around from the beginning.
@hoosiers94 I spent many posts on the last site advocating for a more NBA organization approach, this time, to the basketball management and coaching. I just think there are so many things that are new, and changing, that it would be nearly impossible for a basketball coach to focus on all of that, AND have the time and resolve to also focus on building the foundational "basketball stuff".
Your questions are great ones? I have to think he probably wasn't paid as much as one would think by the Pacers. AND this is a heavy investment by Indiana on the entire Indiana basketball management program. Its pretty obvious Dolson has wanted to do things like this in the past, with his hiring of Matta to help Woodson.
Maybe this essentially frees up CDD more to evaluate kids, coach them, etc... And Carr will handle all the ebbs and flows with todays NIL world, foreign born kids, portal dynamics, dealing directly with Donors, etc... Essentially a GM/Lead scout, position.
