@auburnhoosier It seem to me that Bailey becomes anxious when moving into the post play, both offensively and defensively. Maybe his shot should come from a little farther out except when rebounding offensively.
Yes, but most of these players have lived with score first mentality. Really wish Coach DD would've gotten a other 6'10 guy.
rebounding continues to be a major issue. that said, i'll echo what i said in another thread.
iu is currently 27th in eFG%, 39th in 3P% (39.4%), 17th in TO%, are 77% from the line and 7th in assist rate. and, as bad as they've looked, iu actually moved *up* to 24 in torvik and are 25th in offensive efficiency and 27th in defensive efficiency.
i don't get why they look so stagnant at times the past two games. the action on the weak side is completely non existent. are they being scouted more? are they hesitating because shots aren't going in? are they working through things and figuring out a rotation?
i think it's all of the above. i still think this is a tournament team but more like a 9-10 seed than a 6-8 seed.
@kkott Not much is said about Wilkerson's defense but he has the size, body and quickness to be an elite defender.
Tuesday gonna be a shootout. Hope the 3s are falling.

Playing the devil's advocate here....
Imagine how the conversation has changed in a year. This time last year, we were probably hoping for a hope and a prayer that IU would make the NCAA tournament. Now, were complaining about a 20 point win. Yes, a little sluggish but better than a 9 point win over Memphis.
Better than beating Akron by 2 after multiple ovetimes!
Wait wrong sport. NVM. Must have entered my head thinking about changes to coaching from weak to good.
,
I think our chances of the tournament are a hope and a prayer this year as well given the roster construction. Difference is , sans the last 2 games, that we have a better system ,, a better mindset and some accountability. We have a lot of holes on this roster but I do think we have shifted the culture. But we lay another egg here whoa.

In kenpom over the last two games IU went up appx 15 + spots in defense eff while dropping the same in offensive. Most of the def rise came against Lindenwood.
Not that they played well but the 20 point win wasn't as bad as some are making it to be. Fwiw it's not easy to increase def efficiency against a sub 300 opponent.
Purdue had a similar flat game recently - like we did with Incarnate Word - against comparable competition. It happens. Some teams play down to comp and some underdogs refuse to quit. It matters very little this early in the season.
I think some people just watch sports to complain and prophesize impending doom. I prefer to just watch and see what happens.
Bingo! These crap games are so difficult to get excited about! Not really a good excuse though- these guys need to have more energy and get these games over quickerNeed to upgrade the level of the cupcake portion in future seasons to keep the team engaged. Not like football where an extra loss knocks you out. Even the crowd enthusiasm sounded forced tonight.

i tend to agree but k state is going to let it fly…they’re avg in the mid 90s and one of the best 3pt shooting teams in the nation. we’ll see tuesday if the defensive gains were real or not.
@scam-likely Forgotten are the past embarrassments of getting drubbed by Nebraska, struggling against an undermanned Army team and nipping Morehead State by a point. These are examples of many games in which Woodson coached teams played horribly. In comparison, the Incarnate Word and Lindenwood victories are gems. Fans have short term memories and like to complain.
@scam-likely makes it a lot easier to go up in defense efficiency when they can’t hit the broad side of a barn. If we leave KSU that open they will hang a 100 on us.
I'm concerned about the lack of post presence as well. I think Coach DD can make adjustments and that's huge. I'm hoping they've been working on defense more lately and that's the decrease in offensive efficiency. Atleast its bit ab uphill battle. K St will be our best indication how this team is going to be.
@bigmike There are legitimate concerns about the team. They do play a fun brand of ball, but the concerns we highlighted in the preseason are still concerns. It's fine, it's nothing new. They'll beat someone they shouldn't bc of the three ball and either lose or need to gut out wins when 3s aren't falling.
