I looked at ON3's transfer ratings---they had Bailey at #31. For perspective, they had Wilkerson at 34, Moeez Johnson & Mara of UM at #s 40 & 50 respectively, and Cadeau at #64. To be fair, 247 had Bailey in the late 50s/60s and Wilkerson at 44 (as I recall).
Bailey is a bust, no doubt. But about 20 of the top 50 are busts. The portal is a tough way to go. Michigan just drew all aces.

So......I looked at our transfers' teams the last year they played there, the year before, and the year after....
Troy (Conerway)...2023-24: 20-12, 13-5 in conference, T2nd; 2024-25: 23-11, 13-5 T1st with 3 other teams in regular season, did not win tourney, lost 1st round NCAA; 2025-26: 18-11, 10-6
Sam Houston State (Wilkerson)...2023-24: 21-12, 13-3; 2024-25: 13-19, 6-12; 2025-26: 19-8, 11-5
Davidson (Bailey)...2023-24: 15-17, 5-13; 2024-25: 17-16, 6-12; 2025-26: 16-11, 7-7
N. Florida (Miles & Harris)...2023-24: 16-16, 9-7; 2024-25: 15-17, 8-10; 2025-26: 6-23, 4-12
Elon (Dorn)...2023-24: 16-16, 9-7; 2024-25: 17-16, 8-10; 2025-26: 14-14, 6-9
Some observations:
--Not only were our guys from mid-major programs.....for the most part they weren't from good mid-major programs. Conerway's team was the best, with a 4 way tie for 1st in the Sun Belt. Sam Houston St. was 13-19, 6-12 in Wilkerson's last year. Davidson 17-16, 6-12. N. Florida 16-16, 9-7. Elon 17-16, 8-10.
--Sam Houston State has done much better this year without Wilkerson than they did in 2024-25.; Troy slightly worse w/o Conerway; Davidson better w/o Bailey; N. Florida much worse....Miles, Harris & Murphy (Purdue) were their 3 best players. But....didn't it always seems odd that we took 2 players off a 16-16 N. Florida team?; Elon about the same.
@mushroomgod With the Portal, either pay mid-major guys from winning programs and/or get guys from power conferences. Mid-major mediocrity doesn't normally translate to P5 success.
If I were an AD, I'd make sure my hire was a good poker and chess player; the Portal can be a crapshoot where one move can be the difference between a 4-seed and the NIT.
