It's Purdue ... FF is a pipe dream this season, imo. Not athletic enough (which is why it's a decent matchup for IU).Purdue's best is still FF level potential.
@middawg Purdue will be intent on NOT letting Lamar or Tucker get going. I think Dorn, and maybe Enright, and a guy like Sisley, are going to be very important tonight. Purdue's defense isn't foundationally good enough to keep Lamar and Tucker down for an entire game, if we're running our offense consistently. So if the other guys I mention can step up and make some shots to help them, Lamar and Tucker will get their opportunities to do what they can do, as well. And THAT will be how we beat them.
Obviously its very possible Purdue plays like they're on fire tonight, and there won't be a ton we could do to stop them from thumping us, if they do. But if we can weather any storm they have for us early, I still think the matchup is a good one, and we could beat them tonight.
You are a glass 3/4 full guy.
Dorn has sucked for four straight games now.....4 for 23 over that span. In the two harshest road environments he was 0-3 on 3s v. UK and 0-4 v. Illinois. Odds are he will suck tonight. If he goes off we will have a shot at losing by only 12 or so.
Enright's the only guy on the team that can be effective guarding Smith. He won't get any calls tonight. Against Michigan, in 2nd half, , Smith got fouls called by jumping directing into the man guarding him as he drove. Enright will have 2 fouls within the first 9 minutes. So will DeVries. So will Wilkerson.
Bailey played well in the first game. He'll be meek as a lamb tonight.
Over/Under on dunks tonight.....5; over/under on dunks in Bailey's face....2
Purdue won't have to play like they're on fire in both halves to win easily.....either half will do......we haven't played well over the course of an entire game all year. They're not going to start tonight.

Smith don't like being pressured. Pressured he's about half as effective. If Conner executes that consistently it'll be a repeat of AH. You better believe the Spartans will be watching intently.

No way the refs let him play Smith like he did at AH
When you're flirting with the Bubble, there are no "house money" games. Although IU wasn't expected to beat Illinois and isn't expected to beat Purdue, getting whipped in both can't be good for metrics. All losses aren't created equal, so it would be helpful if tonight's game is at least competitive.
This is Purdue's super bowl though (like it was ours in Assembly Hall, to be fair). It could be a rough night, for sure.
IU's Super Bowl was played in Miami in January. (gotta call you out on that comment).
😀 🤣 Sorry...Dorn and Devries are going to hit shots. They are due. ...
No big reason to single Dorn out when the team gets whipped... But he has one of the most useless stat lines I have ever seen for a game. Goose eggs except one rebound, and three fouls. In 25 minutes! Two shots... 0-2 from 3pt range. In 25 minutes! How do you take two shots?! And do nothing else? And he looked exactly like that on the court, the stat line looks exactly like he looked.
Coach had better not read any stats this portal season. Use your eyes and pick some basketball players. Go to division 50 if you need. Somewhere in this vast country there are guys who can play a little.
Dorn can shoot when open. But never saw as useless floating around not shooting doing nothing as last night. Play basketball! Team loss, but go down swinging, geesh.
Too bad too. He can shoot.

because he's mid major talent. It doesnt translate to the big boys
Sure it does. Happens all the time.

not on this case. Perfect example:: Coby White ..:
Gets an opportunity to crack the Bulls lineup couple of years ago. Goes on a tear for about 20 games or so. Then the opposing teams start to get scouting reports that he's now the man on Chicago. What happens next, they start to defend him ,, he's now pretty much ineffective
that's Nick Dorn.
Yeah, not in this case. But Wilkerson translated. Even better we had a team around him. (Read:inside game.)
Surely there are bigs in the mid-majors who couldve defended last night, and rebounded. Dont need to be stars.
Dorn would be great as a set piece 12-15 minute a game shooter.

I'm sure there are..
Not the way he's been shooting lately. What's more is he doesn't seem to know how to hunt down the shots. His positioning and off ball movement seems errant and unfocused at times. Like he's watching the game with the rest of us on TV. Maybe he can learn to get out of that mode but I'm not counting on it. It's wishful thinking. I'd keep him for next years team for some sort of continuity but would not be counting on him for meaningful minutes. Being a great "around the world" player isn't being a great shooter. I'm great at around the world too and I have/had no business on that court
Speaking of shooting... Enright took an open 12 footer driving, tried to bank it and it banked off the side of the rim. It was horrible. I just dont understand this shit. 80% of the guards in the league at least rattle it or give it a chance. It was not an easy shot, he had to take it due to time. But my gosh. What do our guys do when in the gym? At least Enright comes thru now and then with a big shot, he doesnt choke.
I think its our medical staff. Going also by some of TDs and Dorns airballs. We need a much better optometrist.

i agree. But I think a lot of it is the speed of the game. Mid major skill level ... again I'm great at around the world. I'm great at HORSE. But make me move fast and with someone in my grill, my shooting percentage and decision making ability goes way down
Wilkerson and Enright have earned their money. No one else on the roster has. DD has had a shit season as GM.
