agree with keeping 12- IF IU could land those 3, plus Vaaks, Cooper, the kid from Duke and GT, I would be thrilledIf the Hoosiers were to get those 3 players there would be some happy people on Portal Kombat. Definitely a major talent upgrade over last years haul. Would you have any rough guess on what kind of money Indiana would have remaining to spend for the other 5 portal players? (Assuming a roster of 13.)I don't want to get anyone's hopes up but Jeff Goodman wrote in his subscriber newsletter (credit to Jeff Goodman...or blame to Jeff Goodman!) that IU "looks like the frontrunner to land Alabama transfer Aiden Sherrell." He also wrote that LSU was in the mix but his source would be surprised if Sherrell went anywhere other than IU.
I mean, that would be a massive, massive get for Indiana. I'm confident IU ends up with Markus Burton (I just don't think he wants to go as far away from home as Houston and I think IU will pay enough to land him). I'm reasonably optimistic that Jalen Haralson is kind of out of realistic landing spots and might end up at IU (awesome if so!). Landing Sherrell would just be a huge surprise but it would be awesome.
I would like to see DeVries fill only 12 roster spots (7 from the portal, the 3 freshmen, Sisley & Acimovic) as this would give him more money to spend on quality instead of more quantity. I'm assuming he's going to get something out of these freshmen as contributors in their initial year.
How about 7'9" Oliver Rioux? The good news is he's in the portal with 3 years of remaining eligibility. The bad news is he only scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 11 games for Florida. Oliver lacks the athleticism of Kemp and handle of Durant but in his own way may rival the physical presence of Shaq.
This year it seems like the players are doing a little more shopping for the best deal they can get. Can't blame them as perhaps the rules will change next season. This pay for play system with very limited rules can't go on forever.If the player decisions in the portal were all about money, anyone of us knuckleheads on this topic post could be the money bag thrower and get the players we wanted.
it's not all about money. it's about fit, development AND money. the money has to be comparable or the kid ain't coming.
that plus every school has a budget. that's why gm's are being hired to manage it all.
I won't lie to you...I'm pretty sad about this one. Jalen Haralson is going to either North Carolina, Ohio State or Tennessee (he'd be a great fit there). I know his asking price is very high and he's currently a non-shooter that would have been a weird fit for DDV's system but he's a good player and I enjoy watching him play. Deciding Haralson is not worth the money he wants is fine but you darn sure better have a good plan that you can execute.
I do think IU is in great shape with Jaeden Mustaf, Darren Harris seems like a very winnable recruitment and Markus Burton is a guy you'd have to feel great about landing if he gets to his IU visit tomorrow without committing to Houston. Indiana was mentioned by On3 as being a potential option for Eric Reibe (although USC might be favored) and Duke transfer Nikolas Khamenia so we'll see if those go anywhere.

Burton is great but the rest all just feels underwhelming.
After last year, Im good with underwhelming. Just dont be a wth? roster.
@tjinman1987 The OSU and Haralson connection is one I find strange. After Devin Royal went to the portal I figured Anthony Thompson and Amare Bynum would be their starters. If Haralson went to the Buckeyes, someone will lose playing time.

Im not that pessimistic. I feel good we will upgrade. Nothing to base it on other than Dolson had to see what we saw, and Coach, and Carr as well.
I would be excited about a Harris, Burton, Mustaf trio then SPLURGE on a top big like Sherell (sp??) or the kid from Louisville. Probably wishful thinking but IU IS DUE!!!
