We need a class like the Calbert Cheany class. With Chris Reynolds for point. Funder-bunk if he'd stay, which now that we can pay as big of bucks as all the other schools, almost, he might. Graham and Graham, Leary.
I hope the staff is serious about these last 3 positions. I hope they are not satisfied, but I fear they are. Prove us all wrong, and we won't question you in the future.
Seriously? I've read this closing blurb a dozen times and EVERY time I laugh out loud. In what bizarro world or alternate reality do you reckon that the staff of a program like IU isn't serious about roster positions? A reality where a second year head coach that eked out a record 4 games over .500 and missed the NCAA is somehow satisfied with 3 spots left to fill? A world where they give any sort of shiites or fecks about the "questioning" of some random "us or we" clamoring to be proven wrong?
I'm not sure what leads you to believe any of this, but if it's drugs I'll have what you're having...
Well.....I've got 5 pieces of evidence that support my suspicion that DeVries doesn't care much about positions 10-13: they are named Drake, Harris, Ristic, Acimovic, and Wang.
In mid-January 2026, CDD indicated that Harris & Drake would likely be back playing in short order. He never mentioned them thereafter. He was positive in his public statements about Acimovic & Ristic. Thereafter they were basically treated as walk-ons. Now we're talking about taking a kid that does not have sufficient talent to be a 5-10M rotation player in a position of need. Why would we do that?
About 2 weeks ago, at the conclusion of the portal haul, Jeff Rabjohns tweeted out a message to the effect that IU 'had its roster,' any additions thereafter would be less than dramatic.......essentially this is it, don't get your hopes up for much more. He is known to be friends with Carr. Since then there has been an continuing discussion on BTB whether he had inside information or was essentially full of shit.
What I have noticed since his message has been an almost complete lack of reported interest is any remaining quality players in the portal. I did read that we were talking with Josiah Parker of FAU, a PF rated 95th on the 247 portal. He would be a nice addition, but I've seen nothing further about him.
This is where the addition of Wang comes in. It makes no sense if there is serious interest in improving the position to add the depth to move us up 2-3 positions in the BT. I think most IU fans see 3 remaining positions of need: a back-up 4/5 to play 5-10M/game; a taller wing; and a back-up PG, and assume we would be serious about putting together a better roster. And that the only reason we would not do so is because we are now broke. However, Wang is perfect if the intention is to add roster filler while keeping the fans pacified. We can't keep three roster positions open. Isn't that what happened last year?
There are other factors at play here, namely dealings with the portal players and their agents, and recruits. If you introduce serious competition to guys like Harris, Lindsay, and Mustaf, or decide not to play guys like Moody & Karvala (Manhertz is redshirting), you risk pissing them off, breaking ties with agents and losing recruits to the portal next spring. DeVries is a player-first coach that talks a lot about his team being connected. Why rock the boat by pushing for more competition? Why not be happy with what you've got? And you have a lack of resources as a ready-made excuse. So I am concerned that there might really be NO interest in further improving the roster, other than to add practice players. That we have our roster, and will run with it. "Establish our culture". And that the focus will be on finishing 6th-9th in the BT and making the tourney, and everybody keeps their jobs and stays fat & happy for another year.

Basketball fans (and I'm no exception) enjoy discussing and bantering amongst themselves regarding players and potential players. Some 15 or so years ago there was a highly heralded IU recruiting class that went by the name of "The Movement." Hanner Mosquera Perea, Jeremy Hollowell, Yogi Ferrell, Ron Patterson, and Peter Jurkin were going to lead Indiana basketball back to the promised land. Yogi went on to have a fantastic career as a Hoosier but the rest of the cast was disappointing.
I mentioned "The Movement" because that class symbolizes why players can't be hyped too much. The portal class for 2026 looks very promising but in the end it will depend on how well DeVries can get the players to perform. As it now stands I'd say all needs to go perfectly well with no surprises for the current roster to finish 6th in the Big 10.
If Wang becomes a Hoosier, I believe it's mandatory to add a player to the roster that can play the 5 position. Wang is not a terrible player but he's no Kevin Durant, Grant Gelon, Tim Priller, 3 times worse than Ben Humrichous or someone that can play the 5 spot.
(Would have been crazy if Wang was a member of "The Movement" along with Peter Jurkin.)
I even bought into the movement hype. Even jurkin was hyped up quite a bit and he never even ended up playing. Every class gets hyped but that one was really hyped.
Those were crazy days. Ron Patterson never played a minute for IU as he couldn't get academically qualified. Jurkin scored 2 points in 11 games for the Hoosiers and then transferred to East Tennessee State. When I last checked, Peter was doing some type of coaching at ETSU. On Perea I remember he was a good dunker but that's about it. Crean gave Perea a couple game suspension after a highly publicized DUI incident.
"The Movement" may have been one of the factors that got Crean moved out of IU.
I remember going with my dad to watch them in the summer on Indiana Elite. And we both walked away thinking that Yogi guy is pretty good but the rest of these guys seem way overhyped. I guess that proved to be right. HMP even in AAU all he did was dunk.
I hope the staff is serious about these last 3 positions. I hope they are not satisfied, but I fear they are. Prove us all wrong, and we won't question you in the future.

Conference placement is an irrelevant stat past maybe the top 2/3. PU was 6th last year and a 2 seed in the dance.
I imagine many would indeed consider that a success

I'm pretty confident that I am. Maybe you should go check BTB and see what they have to say. Make sure you report back on all of their activities! We're dying to hear about it.

Here we are stuck in the real world while they get to live in a world where we get guys who will give you starter level production @ the 6-10 roster spots...lucky asses. But seriously, there are only 80 minutes to be had between the 4 and 5 spots, and I reckon they are planning to get 55-65 of them out of Yigi and Sherrell. If you get 10 out of Sisley backing up the 4 spot you really only need around 10-15 from whoever is brought in as another frontcourt depth piece. But no, it can't be that, it must be proof that the staff isn't taking it seriously and are hoping to rest on their non-existent laurels and do just enough to get by. This ish just boggles my mind, I swear to god.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"
I'd swear reading some of the above he must already be on the roster. Don't know if my eyes are tired or brain is tired but someone's fingers should be.
I certainly hope the coaching staff is t happy with too 6-9 as you said- if so, they all need to go now-
im lazy, but could one of you put a list of guys 6’8 that are physical and athletic, that are still available? I’d like to see how many IU is ignoring?
I think PAM is the back up of plan and I’m ok w it- will get him time and maybe he won’t bolt next season- agree on needing a back up 5- I think we are set w Sisley, Mustaf, and Sherrell @ the 4
I don't see the Wanger being much of a contributor... at all. Don't care what he did against his conference foes... they aren't Big Ten teams. They might be decent teams but ... not near as physical
I hope the staff is serious about these last 3 positions. I hope they are not satisfied, but I fear they are. Prove us all wrong, and we won't question you in the future.
