@hoosiers94 Bailey had some good moments but overall no, I don't want him back. Definitely not as a starter.
I don't understand deliberately creating chaos by having last years seniors immediately eligible for another year. Why stop there? Why not go back to anyone who only played 4 years?
If you're going to change the rules to allow playing 5 years, make it take effect from this season forward. I don't like it but making it retroactive is insane.
@bigmike If they're "tapped out" on funds, then they're tapped out, I guess. And this roster is constructed better, overall, than last years was. And Sherrell and Yiggy, is a better front court stable than Bailey, Alexis, Harris, Amicovic, were. But as we saw last year, injuries happen. And only having 2 rotation capable bigs, if that is how it ends up, is not a good idea. And while it has to be acknowledged that the roster IS better, and appears to be more purposeful and thought out... its still pretty early, so throwing out these IF's is pretty whiny sounding, at this point... but IF, those 2 guys do end up being the only 2 rotation capable bigs on our roster... that flips me back in to the major red flag territory for CDD and our staff, when it comes to roster decisions, team building philosophies, etc...
Lots of time left. Hopefully this gnashing and worrying ends up looking silly. But until we add another rotation level big, I'll be worried about it.
Injuries always happen and IU was pretty lucky the main players all mostly stayed healthy. Minnesota and Oregon were hammered with injuries all year long to major players I think Oregon had four guys down at one point. You certainly need more in the front court but if we really have already spent 18-20 million we likely are not getting a big impact guy it will probably be a lower money guy imo.
No one knows how this will play out or what roster ramifications it will have but there could be chaos in the near future if seniors are granted another year of eligibility with immediate implementation: https://twitter.com/WinterSportsLaw/status/2047277566990389673?s=20
Sam Alexis and Reed Bailey would have the possibility to play another year. I'd guess all eligible 5th year players would get a portal window of their own and then we'd see a scramble. For reference, potential notable players that COULD play again: Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer, Jakobi Gillespie, Nick Boyd, Tarris Reed, Alex Karaban, Ryan Conwell and several, several others.
First they got the covid year now they want to give them five years. Why stop at five just make it unlimited we can have 35 year olds playing soon. Lol.

I guess I was off a little only 26 year olds. Lol.
. The 6-6 senior was a member of the 2018 recruiting class. Previously played for Memphis, Creighton, Louisana, UCF and Bethune-Cookman. Seeking a waiver for a 9th year of college basketball.
@bigmike Mara was a very flawed player coming out of UCLA. Its possible Yiggy could make similar improvements. I would say banking on that isn't a very good strategy, though. Its still pretty obvious IU needs to add some more depth and talent on the front line. Seems like they've been pretty good at operating behind the scenes with all this portal stuff. So hopefully they're very actively pursuing more bigs. With how last years class went, its pretty normal for us IU fans to be nervous about it, though.
We have two more "bigs" already on this year's roster IMO. We have two guys capable of playing the 5 in the BIG. Last year we had 0.
And we had 0.5 of a point guard. This year at least one good one and more.@bigmike Mara was a very flawed player coming out of UCLA. Its possible Yiggy could make similar improvements. True but last year IU had a number of guys that weren't capable of playing in the Big 10.@bigmike Mara was a very flawed player coming out of UCLA. Its possible Yiggy could make similar improvements. Hope things are going well behind the scenes. Go Hoosiers!

Thiam, 7'2" from Cincy, to Michigan. Probably not what you had in mind.

It feels like the roster as it stands gets us to 7th-9th in the BT. Definitely behind Michigan, MSU, Illinois. Probably behind USC, Purdue & UCLA. Competitive with Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin. Probably better than the rest. I hope Durwood & Carr aren't satisfied with that. I hope the delay in finalizing the roster involves trying to find 2 year P5/European big, ball handler and/or shooter, as they have obviously intentionally avoided any 1 year players.

Listened to a podcast concerning ' 25 best available portal players'. Only guy discussed with IU was Josiah Parker. He's 6 7 225 lbs out of Florida Atlantic. A scorer/rebounder, but not a 3 pt shooter, so not sure why the interest on our part.
The good for Parker in 21.8 mpg: 9.6 ppg & 6 rpg. The ugly for Parker: 4 three-pointers out of 25 attempts for 16%.@bigmike If they're "tapped out" on funds, then they're tapped out, I guess.
