@unclemark should probably fire their bum mid major coach 😉.
I think he deserves one more game to prove himself. If he misses the Elite 8, then he's definitely on the hotseat.
What a finish.
The play for the game winning shot reminded me a bit of the Wat Shot.
Wow Florida didn’t even get a shot off. Great showing by the Big Ten this tournament. SEC basketball just like SEC football…second rate
All mccollum has to say is Google me I win.
Why Dolson had a shot at a clearly big time coach, who had a minor league pedigree like DeBoer and, Cignetti... And decided - Nah, that model doesnt work.
Still floors me.
Unless we really did make a real offer. Still. He got his guy. We will find out.
,
I didn't expect Iowa to beat Florida, but it's not really a surprise; McCollum is a flat-out winner. If he ever gets high-level NIL...
Damn it… McCollum basically called Golden a bitch on live TV, during the game, then went on to beat him…
I don’t prescribe to any “one true coach” thoughts. IU can be successful with any number of coaches, I’m sure. That hopefully includes DeVries, and soon. But damn it sucks to see two guys like May and McCollum being such bad asses right now.
@iunorth I was going to bet the under, but got caught up in the WBC and missed tip
6 from BT; 4 from SEC; 3 from Big 12; 2 BE; 1 ACC
The 3 remaining Big 12 teams look very competitive. I wouldn't expect any of the 4 SEC teams to make it to the FF.
Either Iowa or Nebraska will make it to the EE. Nice year for the winner.

I think you and I were both on the McCollum recruiting search bandwagon. I was a true believer in the guy, and that's one reason I am a DeVries denier. In the old forum, I was also all for Archie offering Braden Smith after his sophomore year, the first on that board. I fear this is the Braden Smith Story all over again.

I did not really want Ben but that was because I wanted some more proven guys like the guy from Texas Tech. That being said Devries was never on my list and I would certainly have preferred Ben over DD. Google me I win seems to be the case again on this one. I would not be shocked at all if Iowa makes the elite 8 which is something we have not done since Mike Davis.
What was even more impressive about that win is that was home game for Florida too.
Iowa's first S16 since 1999. I know some believe they'll disgress next season without Stirtz, but I doubt it. Winners win.

I think that is a just a cope for some because they know we likely messed up again. What is the difference DD brought his son who was his star and we missed the tourney. Good coaches find a way to win. Wisconsin is always in the tourney and I can guarantee their NIL is probably nothing like ours. I literally was reading Btown Banners and some guys are saying they are glad we do not have Ben because of the style of play. LOL.
I am starting to think Dolson just got lucky with cig because if he really believed " google me I win " the hire would have been Ben.
@arioznahoosier4554 100% speculation on my part... In the Bahamas, he saw how our team struggled, and likely knew moving on Woodson was a very real possibility. He also had an opportunity to see, first hand, DeVries WVU team. Tucker played very well in that event, and WVU showed very well, too. I'm sure DeVries made an impression on Dolson down there. As the season started to swirl the drain, I'm sure Dolson reached out to DeVries people, and mutual interest was established. McCollum wasn't really on everyone's radar until well in to last season. Drake did beat Miami and Vanderbilt, early on in the season. And I'm sure Dolson was well aware of McCollum, even before the season began. But McCollum didn't go "viral" until well past the holidays, with Drake's undefeated season starting to gain attention. It was THEN that most people started digging in to McCollum, realized what a stud resume he had... I have to think at some point near the end of the sesaon, Dolson probably had heard enough about McCollum that he reached out to his team. Maybe McCollum's team knew they had already reached out to CDD's team, maybe not? IU's season ended the same time WVU's ended... and Drake still had a week left in their season, being in the NCAA tournament. CDD was officially hired March 18th... I doubt McCollum really had much of an interview, as CDD was hired before Drake played their first NCAA tournament game.
In short, the time frames doesn't really support there being any actual interviews with McCollum. CDD had an idea on his man since Bahamas, and that all came together quickly after IU/WVU's seasons were over. I feel pretty strongly that it would have went differently had Dolson focused on McCollum primarily. DeVries would be at Iowa right now. And if we hadn't gotten McCollum, we'd have had to get someone else.

The bahamas trip was very early in the season if he based the hire off of that boy is all I can say. We all know many teams struggle early on and take awhile to get cooking so early season success does not mean much imo. Yeah I mean DD may have looked good in a very early season tourney but what did he finish in conference like 10-10? Sounds to me like Dolson simply had tunnel vision.
@arioznahoosier4554 I DO NOT think he hired him based off that tournament. I just think DeVries put himself squarely on Dolson's radar... and Woodson gave Dolson reason to start actively start looking around, at the same tournament. I think the timing, and coincidence of IU and WVU both being at that tournament could have led to CDD being vetted, and communicated with, earlier than McCollum was. And then the timing at the end of the season sealed it.
