The men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments are on the cusp of expanding to 76 teams, ESPN reported, in the final stages of a move that has long been rumored. It is set to take place for the 2027 tournament.
I hate this move. The greed of the NCAA is appalling. Anything to make a buck. While there at it they might as well let all the teams in.
76 womens teams too.
The quality will be so high.
Everybody gets a ribbon. (Maybe even our mens team.)
Big Ten should eliminate the league tournament, so teams can rest. But if they do that soon, we will have never won it.
There was a time when it was an accomplishment to get an invitation to the NCAA tournament.76 womens teams too.

If DeVries can't get IU into the tournament next year he should return his pay checks to the university.
They are just going to ruin it. Let’s take a perfect product and screw it up! Of course they could screw up a cup of coffee!
Goal posts have not changed for Doorknob. S16 or bust.
They should reserve those 8 additional teams for non-power conferences.
I dont want to see more teams, but if it has to happen, the last thing I want to see is some 6-12 SEC team talking about "quality wins".
At least put the 27-6 MEAC runner up in. (made that up, but sounds about right)

Why are you referring to yourself in the third person?
the NCAA can't just do the obvious (and best) thing, and it's right in front of them: 64 teams for bball and 16 for football. Diluting the field will only hurt overall interest.
Essentially, they expanded the play in games. I'm not sure this will dilute interest. 24 teams make play in games, and they'll play them in 2 sites. I suspect they saw the viewership and attendance popularity of the Dayton games, and felt like expanding that was one way they could expand the scope of the tourney, without completely changing the first weekend games.
I haven't read what teams will be in the play in games... that part will be fascinating. Kinda guessing it will be all 11-16 seed teams. If that's true, that will inherently make the "2nd Round" games more competitive, and more difficult. We should see more upsets in that 2nd (traditional 1st) round, because the play ins will weed out the weakest low seed teams.
I also think they should just keep it at 64 teams. But if they're going to expand it, making more play in games is a decent way to do it.
The NCAA has nothing to do with the football playoff.the NCAA can't just do the obvious (and best) thing, and it's right in front of them: 64 teams for bball and 16 for football. Diluting the field will only hurt overall interest.
Y'all sound like a bunch of old men, which, most of you are, I believe. If you don't like 76 teams, don't watch until it gets down to 64. But here's my guess....you and a whole bunch of people just like you, WILL watch.
I said this in one of our football chats early last year, and it caused a former member to lose his mind. College basketball has become a 1.5-2-month sport and this just pushes it further that way.
We'll see how they do resumes now, but my gut says you'll see more middling P4 teams than deserving mid-majors. I will always watch IU, but tuning into "big" college basketball games does not really happen. The regular season is so watered down that it really doesn't matter until late January through early March.
I get that it's business and sports are in the entertainment business, but they are killing the best tournament there is. We'll have more when it becomes officlal and the NCAA put their thoughts out.
I know longer watch MLB and NBA because of overexposure from lengthened seasons/playoffs. Then the disease was contracted by the NFL. Good bye!! Now the disease inflicts CBB. Hard to give up 'The Dance' but it may be on the horizon.
