We were pretty much united in scoffing at the idea of Cronin being the next IU coach. Now ... I'd swap coaches with UCLA in a millisecond.
Yes, I'm responding to my own thread...
Imo, IU needed to hire someone with gravitas ... someone who could command a room ... a guy capable of changing a program. Obviously, I'm not with the team behind closed doors, but DK just doesn't seem to have that "it" factor. Cronin might have the personality of a rabid coyote, but he seems to be a leader.
I agree it might be a bit unfair to write off DK so quickly, but when you know, you know. I think we knew fairly quickly Archie wasn't the right guy. And we knew Woody wasn't the right guy before he ever coached a game.
And this goes far beyond May and McCollum. I was thinking about the "realistic" coaches (not Stevens, Wright, et al) people were advocating for, and I would take most of them over DK. If he does somehow turn this program around, I'll be the first to eat my words.

Sorry, but when I hear someone speak of Cronin, only one thing really comes to mind.

Cronin is a high floor low ceiling coach. If you're goal is to just stabilize the program and make the tourney every year great hire.
LOL...
Doorknob or Cronin.., easy one.
@gthomas So we'd get a guy that's also not great at getting his players to play with consistent effort and focus...and then he bitches and complains about his players in post game pressers... Both guys are having issues doing central parts of their job...one of them is throwing others under the bus, and making excuses for it. No thanks... I'll take our guy 100 times out of 100 over Cronin.
Sean Miller having a fun season...
Sean Miller takes subtle jab at Kentucky fans when discussing Matas Vokietaitis’ play
From the article:
What our team has, and this is a Texas problem, is we have a virus called fouling,” Miller continued. “It has plagued us from the opening tip of the season to tonight. It’s not the officials. It’s not Kentucky. We will foul the living s**t out of you. We will foul a three-point shooter. We’ll foul at the end of the clock. We’ll leave our feet on drives and we’ll reach. You describe the foul, and the team that I’m coaching will commit it. Tonight, we lost. Kentucky was 30/35 from the line. It’s hard to win an SEC road game when the home team is 30/35 from the line.”
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

I was not I thought we needed a proven winner at a P5 level not another mid major up an comer. I mean winning at Drake is great but its no different than winning at Dayton. As much as I did not really want Brownell he would be better than doorknob he seems to be doing really well in the portal era. We probably could have gotten him imo.

I completely understand your position, and you make góod points. We simply differ on our assessment of DD. I know Cronin gives off serial killer vibes, but I'd trust him with the program far more than "D-Rock."@gthomas So we'd get a guy that's also not great at getting his players to play with consistent effort and focus...and then he bitches and complains about his players in post game pressers... I watched that game. The only thing either team did well was shoot free throws and keep turnovers low.

This doorknob thing makes 0 sense. Before the season started 1 attended 2 different meet & greet fundraising events for Coach Devries. Now I could have had the wool pulled over my eyes with just 1 exposure but not with 2. No falsehoods appeared at all. I grant you he's 2-3 horses short of the type of team IUBB fans want but I also remember a year when Daryl Thomas had to play center because the post position didn't turn out as RMK expected. We lived with it.

But, thats not really a glowing endorsement is it? If you all think DD is terrible and should essentially be fired mid-season of his first year, just being better than him isn't really much of a benchmark.
I think I'd stop watching for good if we hired Cronin.
Good Dakich segment here after the Finebaum stuff.
