@hoosiers94 I don't love comparing him to Cig, because it's a different sport and Cig is one of one, but he rarely is over the top on the sideline so when he does go off f(at Oregon, Big Ten Champ Game) it hits a little harder. Doorknob is harsh, because I take that to mean he's an idiot and Devries isn't an idiot.

@thehoosierhuddle The season isn't yet over and for us Hoosier diehards nothing would be better than to win some games and get into the NCAA tournament. Reality for a number of IU basketball fans, patience has worn thin after many bad and so so years of play. As you stated, the offseason is a HUGE one for Indiana basketball and the future of DeVries. He has a major challenge to attract and recruit the talent that can effectively play in his system so IU can compete at a high level.

Nor do I, each coach is their own style. But when to use it and who to use it on is key. When I say doorknob I refer to his personality as being rather , let's say overly serene.  I do not think he's an idiot. He would not be where he is if he was an idiot.  I just think it takes a little more outward engagement at times with players and recruits to get done what's needed.  Cig has his ways and I'm sure his staff has their ways to get into a kids head or a teams head.  It works for them , to me what DD is doing this year isn't working with this crew and he's in a spotlight so to speak.  People are watching more keenly than they were in Des Moines.

totally agree. A lot of my disdain is at the program , the athletic department over the last 25 years. Most of these folks weren't there for all of this.  So they walked into a firestorm. But they knew what they walked into...  so does it make sense to give him one more year .. in my heart , no.. in my logical brain.. yes .. for posterity's sake only.. I truly do not believe he will turn it around next year.  Not because I've been told wait til next year 26 times now but because of this things we've mentioned today.

he's a nice guy, he's a good mid major coach , he has a nice system but something is off.  And sometimes you don't see it until you put it into the environment.  Dolson like him for a while and hoped he'd be the guy.  But you don't know until you get them out of the lab and into the field type of thing.

@bigmike I agree. It's a big four games and an important 4 games. But the more I think about it, boring (or a similar term) is correct and it's not just performance on the floor. There is very little connection from the players to the fan base. There's no "oh, that's a great story" or not enough anyway (but I believe that has more to do with the current state of sports media than anything).  The outcome against great teams is very rarely in doubt and some people have just checked out.

This team is exactly what most thought they would be. A flawed squad that has physical limitations and if they are not shooting well or playing well on offense will be painful to watch. I am not saying it's good enough or is the standard, but it's reality. Hopefully CDD has taken note and can drum up enough support to put together a more well balanced roster.

I do feel like the world has flipped because prior to Cig these are the conversations I had with the IUFB fan base constantly. There is NO reason IUBB can't attract and retrain top talent and be a team that could be a contender for not only a Big Ten Title but to go deep in the tournament. As you all get to know me, I don't call teams final four teams or even put that in my expectations for any program since the tournament has become more of a crap shoot than ever, but there is zero reason IUBB shouldn't make noise every year.

@gerdis while I don’t agree with every single thing here. Boring is a good way to describe it. Especially when you look at the last decade.

I hope I’m not one of those sun shine pumpers who all talk about.

no, I wasn’t referring to you.   You seem very objective, and there is nothing wrong with trying to get people interested when a little sunshine does peek through the clouds.

We took the third really bad foul call midway thru the first half, and he looked sadly at the ref, shaking his head from side to side, no... That will straighten them out!

As I commented in chat, during that stretch it was Conor working the refs, not CDD.

I thought a team full of shooters from the mid majors seemed like a reasonable strategy if we werent going to spend 30 million on a roster. But not with NO big. And not if they cant actually do it.

So, Im still not sure coach cant coach. But Im nervous about his eyes because of the vast, tremendous, harder working than anyone in the game, tape he supposedly watches. Should have been able to find a bit better squad.

We need a strong finish just to attract some players.

,

No!  A coupe of great shooting mid major guys works great when you have e athletes and top talent around them- a whole team full of them isn’t ever gonna work

We were all pissed about having all bigs w Woodson- too bad we couldn’t have a team of Ware, MR, Devries, Wilkerson!  If Dad could have just landed 1 impact big and 1 super quick guard, we would be a very good team

we need a couple, at least, NBA type talent players to allow for those guys to be effective.  Guys that require a defensive scheme to be focused on them so much that it leaves the likes of Dorn etc so open he can't miss Smile

I watched the first 30 minutes and we are not even competing with these top teams on the road. For iu to be a top six big ten ten something will need to change and change big time. Dorn is not an NBA player like Facebook guys claim he had two good games and now nothing. If he is starting next year expect a similar season. DD is going to have to find five studs who can start in the portal to compete in the top five. Going to be a very tall task most likely

@arioznahoosier4554 I’m stealing that Facebook Guy line. Ha! There’s a role for Dorn. Missing all of the preseason may be having an impact. He’s totally disappeared now. We will do a full roster Evaluation when the season ends too.

its sick because sampson would have been at iu 20 years now and likely won us a title or two.. He has gone to the sweet sixeteen or better six straight years now at Houston of all places. Sure you can say he is slimy but in this day and age slimy doesn't matter. These are pro players anyway.l
