This game embodied the program over the last decade. I don’t think you will find a program that so perfectly defines mediocrity.

and a fan base who's fallen in love with the mediocre

Meanwhile, Michigan will be ranked #1 in the country tomorrow. Thanks Quinn!

Go become a Michigan fan. There's no rule that says you can't.

First season's often aren't a good measuring stick.

Are they publishing NIL budgets now?

Every credible article I've read claims Iowa spent $1.5M and IU around $8-10M. I don't know whether those numbers are exact, but IU having a 5X payroll probably isn't far off.

It could be worse. We could have just lost to the worst team in the conference and then followed that up by getting beat by 20 at home.

Are you referring to the team with 1/5th IU's NIL budget that bitch slapped the Hoosiers at AH?

Excuses, excuses. Just wait until Stirtz is gone.

Valid opinion. I just happen to have the opposite perspective. While Stirtz is one of the best in the B1G, the rest of the roster is meh. I think they'll have a better team top to bottom next season ... which mirrors my thoughts about IU. Wilkerson will be gone, but I'd wager the Hoosiers will have a stronger roster as well in '26-'27.

@gthomas so you also think he’s gonn do. Better in The portal?  Hell I’d love to see it but I have zero confidence he does.  I think we will be using the excuse we are too young next year.

It's tough to say when the Portal hasn't opened yet, but I think IU will be better ... however you want to define that word.

I'm no DD fan, but I think he's smart enough to learn from his mistakes. Oh, and he doesn't have another son to overpay.

he won't. He doesn't have the charisma.  We will same as this year and last year and the year before that.  Like the Bulls content to get into the play in games and lose.

@hoosiers94 I’ll tell you this, there is no chance we have a better player than Lamar.  Now he might get some better role players, but he has shown what kind of guys he goes after.  We will see, I expect a bunch of mid major type try hard guys again.

then we have no chance of winning anymore than we will this year.  Not acceptable to me.  If he can't land a couple NBA caliber we are done

First Four this season, 10-seed next. See, improvement. 😉

STFU and cheer.

As opposed to STFU and bitch?

Yeah, I'm good with the first one.

For the first and second year. It's not like this guy inherited a program. He followed Mike Woodson.

Out of our last five coaches we've had one that went on to do anything in college coaching after Indiana. And that one had to go for effing us over. Means nothing now though. Let's see what Scott can do to help DeVries make it a program.

@cavanagh Its too early to make this call either way... But logic says if he returns 4-5 guys from the current roster, adds another spring HS signee to the current 3 guys, he'll only need to add 3-4 portal guys.  Returning guys and high schools guys ARE cheaper than getting guys on the open market.  And to your point, none of our returning guys are playing themselves in to huge paydays yet.  But even if Dorn does regain his form, and finish the year strong, he'd still be cheaper for IU, than if he had a similar season and hit the open market.  So taking all that in to account, he'll have A LOT more money available for those 4-5 portal guys, than he did last year.  That opens the door up for him to seriously go after NBA levels of dudes.  If he could land an NBA level PG, Big man, and wing.  And we get 1 of the freshmen to "hit", and one of the returning guys to "hit"... then we would be markedly better than we are this year, I would think.

That's a reasonable hope for how this offseason could play out.  If we beat Purdue again, and or win the rest of the games, and play well and win some games in March... and energize the fan base a little bit, and the donors... then this becomes more of a likelihood.  If we get thumped by Purdue, lose 2 or more of the other remaining games, and either miss the NCAAs or limp in and don't look good... then it becomes much less likely.

Yesterday's game killed the vibe.  Gotta get it back going on Friday.  Doesn't have to be a win, but proving the first game wasn't a fluke is very important, in my opinion.  Both for the fans vibes, and also for the donors buy in.

@openwheel I honestly think Dolson made this hire with the "long game" approach in mind.  Ironically, I think he probably had the same mindset and intentions when he hired Cignetti.  One of the more remarkable things that Cignetti has done at IU, that I don't think most think enough about...he never won a national title at any of his earlier stops.  He actually rarely won conference championships even.  So to step in to a program like IU, and do both those things, in 2 years.  Its defies any sort of reason or explanation.  And I think Cig's results are skewing the reality a little bit for CDD and the basketball program.

I'm not saying he's doing as well as I think he could be doing.  I'm not, at all, satisfied, with .500 B10 levels of play, the inconsistencies, not having a better B10 level front court, etc...  I just think that Dolson knows he has a very good college basketball coach.  And that its going to take him a couple years to establish what IU basketball is going to be.

There have been immediately successful coaches in the last 4-5 years... Unfortunately for IU and CDD, one of them is the guy that we really should have on our sidelines right now.  Tommy LLoyd would be another one.  There are a couple more.  But for every one of them, there are probably 10 or more that its taken a couple years for them to fully build what they want and need for their programs to be successful.  Golden, Hurley are the main examples of this, but there are many others that are still in that building process.

CDD is a program builder.  That is a fact.  He was on Altman and McDermott's staffs, during their successful build ups.  He did it himself to a historically doormat Valley program in Drake.  He immediately changed the direction of the WVU program.  And while the on court results so far this year, do feel a lot like Mike Woodson's first couple teams... I strongly suspect we'll start to see the differences here soon, and why CDD will be a much better leader of IU bball than anyone we've had in a long, long time.

Now... chicken or the egg type stuff... Dolson needs to put his big boy pants on and go get CDD some extra millions of dollars for NIL for this upcoming offseason.

Reminder: You said this exact same thing about Tucker being the player we can't/won't replace and yet Wilkerson replaced him as that guy in less than a month.

If either Tucker or Wilkerson wasn't on this team, we'd already be toast. But they are.

We needed another TD level guy though. For boards, defense, offense behind Wilkerson.
