Dude, I had no idea that was the same Denny Lewis.  It looks like they moved to Jasper after you (and I) were long gone.

Was shocking that Michael went to IU - they were big PU fans…

Yeah no thanks. Ball st has been terrible under his tenure

And some wanted him as IU coach at one point. I guess its good woodson bombed so we do not have to go down the you have to hire an IU guy road again

Yeah no thanks. Ball st hasn't committed adequate support and funds to basketball under his tenure

I fixed your post.

For the most part, the teams at the top of any conference are the ones paying the most NIL dollars. Investing in facilities is also part of the equation. Lewis is a good coach, but Ball State is going to be in a similar situation with another coach unless they pony up dollars. It's that simple. Just looking at the MAC, no one is choosing Ball State over Akron, Toledo, Kent State, Miami, UMass or Ohio. It's not because those towns are better tourist destinations. Ball State will continue to compete with the directional Michigan schools (two of which also let their coaches go) and Buffalo if they don't step up.

I've paid ZERO attention to Ball State hoops.  Have Lewis' teams routinely beaten teams they SHOULD beat?  Or is that also a problem?

For the most part, yes. They've also upset some of the top tier MAC teams. They finished the season on a four game win streak and just missed qualifying for the MAC tournament. Until Ball State changes it's spending strategy, they will likely be underdogs to the top half of the MAC. I know he didn't have the best overall record, but it's hard to compete when the finances firmly place your team in the category of teams that others should beat.

I think there's quite a few schools in the MAC with better academic reputations as well. If you are not getting paid much to play, that is going to be a big factor with a lot of kids. They are picking a college.
