@mushroomgod I don't know how it works or how the hosts are selected but "Locked On" is a franchise of sorts and there are Locked On shows for most of the top P4 schools. I've never heard Goins state his ties, if any to IU, and can't really stomach his shows, but he does occasionally pop up on a guest on shows I do watch.

He was at Big Ten media days in Chicago. I have never listened to his stuff, but they sound sensationalized.

@thehoosierhuddle They are, and they never are breaking news. I could do it with stuff I read between your site and 2-3 others, including the Star, and break as many stories (0) and present as timely information. Of course, you have to tease it in the title and opening and then take 30 minutes to convey 3 minutes of actual topic so you get a couple ads in there too!

@kkott well on his morning podcast Wednesday the 26th he talked of the upcoming Don Fisher documentary coming out this Friday and he was going to interview the director on uis afternoon podcast. You probably have better resources than me so could you tell me what platform that will be on? Thanks!

@busdrivere Who the Locked on Hoosiers guy, Jacob Goins? I've only ever watched his show on Youtube, but no idea about a documentary of Don Fischer. I'd guess that will be a paid thing, so maybe Netflix? I'll have to look into it. Anyone else heard anything about a DF documentary? Certainly be worth watching!

I do know (and so do you if you follow/watch an Osterman content for the last couple of months) that the book about last season that Zach Osterman and Michael Niedzelek (sp?) wrote is due to be release in about a month. Believe you can preorder on Amazon. They have a couple promotional events coming up. As annoying as ZO can get at times, I think it will be a very good book and am looking forward to seeing it. 

Sammy, if you are wanting to do more interviews, they might be good to get on the show. Lord knows they'd love to promote their book, but it might start greasing the skids and getting your name out there as an interviewer on IU topics and might pave the way a bit to get some of the players and staff on. The interview that the Kirkwood and Dunn guys did with the receivers coach from LN was really entertaining I thought.

@thehoosierhuddle I was just thinking it might circulate your name more as an interviewer and give your skills more visibility. I think the IU media is lacking a good solid interviewer. The best that come to my mind were the 1 on 1 Don Fisher pieces with the new guys and he's going to be doing less and less. I would think it's a stair step process so get started with who you can get as a guest and build from there to start the progression. It's also practice for you. I don't think the athletics dept is going to allow someone to interview high level coaches, staff and players without knowing the interviewer isn't going to ask them boneheaded questions.

@kkott I have been on the beat for 14 years so IU knows exactly who I am and what I do and ask because I do it every single week. I have interviewed Allen and other coaches one-on-one. I have had Bill Connelly and other bigger names on the show. Not doing local interviews comes from the top and I get that. They did Jim a favor since he missed Big Ten Media Days due to his car accident and it would have been his annual radio row interview with him.

I literally sit next to Zach in every press conference. If he wanted to do our show, he could always reach out. 

I could have the Pope on the show and it wouldn't land us a Cig exclusive.

I do appreciate the advice. It would be good practice, but I am not wasting my time promoting their book unless their PR firm reaches out.

@thehoosierhuddle Just a thought, as to how to get those more prestigous interviews. I don't think of your show as an "interviews" show, like Coyle, the Don Fischer series, or the show that Syd Parrish is doing, and they just got Scott Dolson for a 2nd time. I think folks get somewhat categorized: beat reporter, podcaster, sportswriter, author, or interview style show host. I think of you in the first couple of roles, not necessarily as a interview host. Doesn't have to be Zach and Mike, I just know they are doing anything and everything to promote their book right now. I think one of the most interesting interviews anyone could land right now is get Pat McAfee on and see if you can get him to comment on why Saban repeatedly shorts Cignetti in praise as one of his former assistants and is there bad blood there or what? Seems dumb, because you'd think he'd be embracing him as part of his coaching tree and legacy. Cig certainly gives him tremendous credit. I doubt he'd comment on it, but that would be a super interesting take if he would. Like I said, one of the most interesting interviews I've heard was Kirkwood and Dunn interviewing the LN receivers coach. Lots of ways you could go, if you thought that strategy made sense.

PS, I think having the Pope as a guest sure wouldn't hurt in landing Cig. Isn't he Catholic? 

@kkott You're correct, we are not a talk show and our podcasts are mainly used to show off our thinking and expertise. We did get a sit-down with Steve Aird, but was more of an interview for articles than a podcast or video. Those are the things that will help us most, building a reputation in the department.
