Nothing about the scrimmage the other night and nothing about Gardner and the kid from AZ that had us in his top 3. The football coverage has been great but it’s almost basketball time too and I’d like to start learning a little more about the team.
Apparently, nobody was talking about the scrimmage Friday night. Looked like there was maybe a hundred fans there.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

There was little to no buzz around the scrimmage from where I sit. I didn't even realize it was happening Friday and have seen no real coverage since. I have lost most of my interest after the last few years with nearly 100% turnover of the squad in successive years. I know nothing about who we have and couldn't pick any of them out of a lineup. We need names on the jerseys bad.
Sammy and crew are football first guys, and while TJ is the lead basketball writer it's going to be difficult for him to provide much insight while living out east. The Internet has its limits. Meanwhile, we have the defending national champions front and center, with people on the ground in Bloomington doing the coverage. There's only so much juice to go around.
It will pick up, just not like in the old days when football was a time killer and we all lived and breathed basketball.

We're a football school now.

If you build it they will come. It's that simple and we haven't done anything in a long time. I'm highly optimistic about this season though. I think we'll start to draw attention again.
@zeke4ahs holding a scrimmage on a Friday night when the No. 2 soccer team is taking on a top 10 opponent in Maryland and not having postgame media availability was less than ideal. We had staff at soccer and in NJ for football. IUBB has more media stuff this week on Tuesday afternoon and we'll have a preview of the exhibition game against Butler later in the week.
Some of this is on IU as well. They buried the scrimmage.
As far as basketball recruiting goes, it is not a great use of our resources to try and get in contact with kids, who rarely get back to us and there is no guarantee they come to IU.

I literally have not followed hs recruiting in several years NIL and the portal took all the fun out of it. I could not name one guy we are recruiting in hs.
I find it as fun as ever. Really enjoyed reviewing the guys were getting for this year. Most years now going forward a much bigger chunk of the team will stay. DeVries freshmen recruiting chops and his eye, I think is looking good, we'll see.
I am excited for this year. It's so clear how much more talent there is. Wilkerson was awesome, Devries very good, but we have more guys now. Wish we could have Wilkerson in this group, oh well, lol. Don't know how they'll gel, but we have a veteran coach, no reason to think they won't.
And from a program on the ash heap not long ago... looking alive now
