DD just needs to win and play an attractive brand of ball - thus far, he is doing both. He continues what he is currently doing, he will start winning those battles. Hell, he beat out UK for Wilkerson - one thing for sure, shooter will no longer spurn us for other places.

To no surprise Ethan Taylor officially committed to Michigan State late this Friday afternoon.

On Wednesday 11/19, 5 star center Arafan Diane is to announce his commitment. All the "experts in the know" are pointing in the direction of Houston.

Top 40 2026 high school class, Chris Washington decommitted from Alabama. All I know about him is he's 6'8" and is listed at 185 #s.  DeVries offered Washington a scholarship when he was at West Virginia.

Not to keep piling on.. but I will - many top recruits were probably barely kept in touch with by Woodson's staff. A guy out three years?! Got other stuff to do.

So DeVries needed and needs to reestablish the Indiana brand with the pipelines. I feel good that is happening.

Right... and he has to make a total culture shift as well.

@beez Woodson was lazy when it came to high school recruiting. It takes a great deal of time and work to recruit high school kids. His recruiting system was to throw a big bag of money at the highest ranked players in the portal. Woody should have been fired for negligence in recruiting after his second year of coaching.

@curtdog only reason this one bums me out, is its another elite level kid we missed out on.  I'm sure he'll be great in Sampson's system.  But it was kind of a head scratcher for CDD to be on him so much.  Big, plodding, mainly paint focused bigs don't seem to jive with what CDD is building at IU.  But maybe that's just because he wasn't able to get any good ones for this first team??  Anyway, Ethan Taylor was a much bigger miss, from an overall fit standpoint, in my opinion.

@iunorth yeah, I thought Taylor sounded perfect and hated that we lost on him. Likewise, I thought the ASU decommit, Leo Curtis would've been a great fit too as a 7'er. Not sure if we were even after him, or if there was just a lot of smoke on here about him. Odd that he'd go to NB with Mast there and they have some other posts. Guess he didn't mind pine time.

Trevor Manhertz, a 6'8" wing and top 75 player is visiting IU for the game against Lindenwood. Very interesting as Manhertz was a big riser in the rankings, jumped to the 2027 class BUT is expected to end up back in the 2026 class. He's a fluid athlete and perfectly fits what DeVries wants to have...an abundance of 6'6"-6'8" wings that are smart and can shoot.

Manhertz is on campus now and IU is pursuing him with the hope of adding him to Prince Alexander-Moody and Vaughn Karvala to make a three-man 2026 class.

@tjinman1987 looks solid skill wise.  The bouncing back and forth between 27 and 26 classes might mean he ends up being a little behind physically??  Hope CDD finds an actual big or two in the portal this next offseason.

@iunorth Much like Karvala...he looks like a young man that will need time to physically fill out before being a major factor against high majors, yes.

Wow. Hope we can get a kid like Manhertz. Just what we need. A couple of those guys.

@iunorth I’m with you that Taylor seems to be a much better fit for what CDD wants to do, but like you I’m getting impatient with him not landing any of these top tier guys. I don’t think it’s time to panic yet though.

Its not time to panic.  Failure on the court to go with failure on the recruiting trail is when we start to panic. So far it feels like IU is at or above potential which shows DD knows how to coach. He needs time for proof of concept.
