It looks like it was first announced on 9/25.

Pretty freaking pathetic from a marketing standpoint. Total haul for the food bank - 15 cans of creamed corn and 7 cans of cream of celery.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

I clicked to the middle of the highlights and in a minute or so had heard 'Snively for two!' , 'Snively for two!' and 'Snively for three!' lol And they were nice plays. The walkon may be a spot shooter in a year or two.
I was glad Yigitoglu didn't look bad. Highlights included a bunny miss from a few feet away though. A nice block.
Couldn't tell anything. But was good to see the guys. Sisley looks less important each time I see them, but I still think he can be a moderate minute guy doing a bit of everything. Don't see any star power there though, the new guys look to have raised the bar. Which is A-OK .
Watched the 5 minutes.......my thoughts--
--Glad we have Alexis. Samet & Sherrell are both huge, and both are slow. Samet is physical & active but can't jump at all. Sherrell is less physical and can't jump much better than Samet, but can shoot. We won't suffer from too few 3 point attempts.
--I have yet to be impressed by what I've seen from Burton. He's too small and slow to take over a BT game offensively or defensively.
--I don't think Harris will get over 10 minutes/game. Not sure what he gives us that we can't get from Mustaf/Moody/Burton/Lindsey.
--If Sokolov ever gets to the point that he's a contributor, we won't be very good.
--Sisley is just another guy. Manhertz showed some upside in the informal practice in terms of shooting and running the court, but he can't compete in the grind it out BT in year 1.
--Moody wasn't playing during the 5 minutes. Apparently Durwood took him out at the beginning of the scrimmage to make a point. Mustaf, Moody & Karvala need to be nice contributors for us to be better than mediocre. We're big and we have enough shooters, but we're slow overall and lack star power.
--Enjoy the football season.
Well, I am not that depressed about things.

There is zero excuse to be mediocre given the apparent amount of money IU spent on this roster. DeVries is on the hot seat.

He's not on the hot seat. It's October we haven't played a game yet. Now if this season is a dude his seat will be on fire in year 3.
Well, I am not that depressed about things.
I pretty much am. I'm not sold on the big 3 of Burton, the Turk and Sherrell being as good as advertised. I see the recruiting thread above where IU is saying Sherrell will be in the NBA next year. I'm not convinced of that. Burton is slow for a 6 footer and not much of a facilitator. The Turke is big and tough will some skill but very slow and can't jump. Offsetting that somewhat, I do think the trio of Mustaf, Lindsey, and Moody will be better than a lot of people expect.
@mushroomgod So, IUGradman got your login credentials? I don't think of you as a negative poster, but even you have to admit that's an awful lot of assumptions/takeaways for watching 5 minutes of a scrimmage? Only seen highlights, but in watching Sherrell in Peru, Bama last year and highlights, I think he moves really well and is a good rim protector.
The guy I keep hoping for as a comp for Samet is Mara from UM last year. They had the big guy on the perimeter, and a slight, undersized PG that wasn't overly athletic too, and it seemed to work out OK. I'll be negative about the crowd from Friday, but I think this is a much, much better and well put-together roster than last year and looking forward to the season.
@mushroomgod Burton can, and will, take over games on the offensive side of the ball for us, at times. He did it in the ACC, no reason he won't be able to in the B10. I've followed him since middle school. He isn't end to end fast, but he's VERY quick, crafty, and overall solid with the basketball in his hands. He won't push and dictate pace, from the PG position, he isn't a great offense runner/facilitator, and he isn't going to be a lock down defender. I'm on record for not liking him as our alpha, expensive portal lead guard. But he is a very good basketball player. He won't have any issues producing statistically in the B10.
Sherrell... Thomas Bryant type of player, maybe? He wasn't an NBA draft candidate last season, we'll have to see if DeVries figures out how to coach bigs a little better than he did last year. Last years NBA class was historically good, and deep. This one won't be as good, I'm sure. But even at that, Aiden is going to have to improve a fair bit, to be a surefire first rounder. Skeptical on that, as well.
Yiggy was a solid, productive center in the ACC. He'll be solid, and overall productive. But he isn't Zach Edey. And I don't think he's shown nearly enough in his game to even make the Mara comparison. 8-10 points, 5-6 rebounds, 20 ish minutes, of solid, big, efficient interior play... is what he should provide.
Alexis... if eligible... helps solidify the frontcourt. He raises our floor, and ceiling a bit.
Those 4 players, do establish a solid "core 4". Its not a final four level core. Its not a B10 contending level core. But it is solid.
In order for us to really make a lot of progress, results wise, versus last year, we're going to need a couple other guys to emerge and become really good B10 level wings. Mustaf and Lindsay were pretty solid in the ACC... so they're likely candidates here. Harris... ehhh... not sold. PAM and Karvala, I think, have a good chance to be impactful.
We have a solid, upper half of the league, safely in to the NCAA tournament... roster, on paper. DeVries has to coach them up, for them to push for the top of the league, and/or be in a spot to make some noise in the NCAAs. We'll see how he does. But I think he did a pretty good job building this roster. And if he gets Wabbington, to go with Branhmam... that's sneaky really, really, really good HS recruiting success. Which we do need to get back to. Not to mention nearly all the guys on our current roster, have eligibility left. And most of them not just the added year from the 5th year thing. We "should" have quite a lot better roster stability for the next few years, if CDD wins enough to keep his job.

Exactly. If CDD can't coach this roster up enough to compete for the top of the BT then, IMO, he is NOT the guy!

Well, Last year Mara averaged 23 minutes, 12 ppg and 6.8rpg, so not very far off your projections at all. More critically, the year before at UCLA he averaged 13mpg, 6.4ppg and 4 rpg, so Samet comes in with a more productive background. All depends on how he's used, but the point remains he's been productive and should be this year for us, and hopefully impactful in a way similar to Mara was for UM.
@kkott Yiggy isn't nearly as versatile, or mobile, as Mara is... in my opinion. 9 and 6, without all the other stuff Mara did to impact a game, is solid, but not "Mara like".
@albino I didn't say that. I said this roster is an upper half, safe NCAA team, roster. If CDD doesn't coach them up to where they contend for the B10 title, I don't think that implies he isn't the man for the job.
23-10 overall record. 13-7 in B10. Win a couple BTT games. Get a 6 ish seed in the NCAA tournament. Win a game or two.
Sherrell goes pro. All other key contributors return. We add Branham, Wabbington, German kid, and a couple impactful transfers.
I think that would be a good step in the right direction. And next years team would be a team that could finally get us back to where we all want to be.
