Doesn't surprise me

You will. This program is destined to win 18-20 games a season and sit on the bubble come March.
Dolson needs to ask the fans to donate more because the money isn’t there to win at a high level.
This is just the first of many big names who will go elsewhere; there's nothing special about IU on the national scale. If you think otherwise, you're living in the 90s.
Carr and dorkknob doing a bang up job. Woo hoo. So glad he has another 1-2 years to rebuild with lower level Mid Major players
@iugradman I’ve read we have top 10 to 15 money. I haven’t talked to anyone to confirm that. But if that’s close to true we better get some Fing players.
last year we over spent on awful players. Bust your N on 3 good ones.

The top programs like Michigan will have first choice of the top 45 or so players and programs like IU will get to choose from what is left. Money does matter but so does having a winning program and the winning programs will get the best players. It is what it is but not all surprising.
@iugradman Is it just a lack of resources though, or is it something else?

The problem is a program like Michigan only has to bring in three players. We are going to have to bring 7-9 players. They can simply pay up big for the three where we have to figure out how to get all nine paid.

If you have a non-elite coach they need to have elite resources to even have a competitive team. IU has neither. I just don’t appreciate the fact that Dolson isn’t being honest with the fans. He can’t say he and DeVries have high expectations then not pony up the dough to meet those expectations.

You realize that in addition to the 3 portals they have to pay they also have to keep paying the guys coming back, probably more than they paid them last season. The also have to pay the incoming freshmen.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

Yep but my guess is those deals with the incoming guys were already done. The guys coming back just work out the raise. At that point dusty likely says here is how much more I need to get three more and they say OK you just won the title so money is no option.

Michigan has to pay their entire roster just like all teams do. Now that said, needing fewer players is an advantage, and being the defending national champion is an advantage, no arguments there.
@iugradman How do we know we don’t have the money? I keep hearing guesses but I don’t think anyone really knows. I also think if we had a big recruit that was interested, we could probably figure out the money. I know there is a difference between the football money and basketball money, but you can’t tell me a national championship didn’t help donations.

Michigan has the worst arena in the conference, and they always take a back seat to football and even hockey. What UM has going is typically a pretty heady AD, and now an exceptional coach.
