I don't know if anyone posted about this but did anyone else see/listen to the Club 520 Podcast that Jeff Teague hosts when he had Charlie Villanueva on a couple weeks back?
Charlie was asked if the rumor of him teaming up with Luol Deng at IU was true. He said it was but then went on to say, "Mike Davis was NIL before NIL." That's highly concerning. ha Start at 4:40 into the video.
Sounds like it. But apparently not nearly as impressively as Illinois.

Not shocked in the slightest and definitely suspected back then that this was going on with Davis. Always felt he was corrupt in addition to being a Judas. Marco Killingsworth, Bracey Wright, etc. raised red flags to me and the guy just had the aura of someone who would resort to that. If anyone else is actually shocked by this that’s what would shock me.

@openwheel You know the amounts were small, particularly and obviously in relation to today, but funny to think about. As opposed to the ones named herein hopefully Newton/Moya etc. got some cash. At least they brought memories. Funny to think of Davis paying kids yet the next guy gets canned over phone calls

Its just a matter of judging integrity of 2 people. Mike Davis had integrity while at IU. He had a humble persona. He made a lot of mistakes as a coach, but I'd take his word over a guy who never even played in Bloomington.

@gros-louis Yeah I don't understand what the motive would be to randomly throw someone under the bus if it wasn't true.
@gros-louis I was really hoping Davis would do well. He seemed like the ultimate underdog. But that run really set him up. James Blunt that singer who sang that goodbye song said that that song paid for basically his entire life. Sidebar but he's actually a really funny guy. He threatened Spotify. He said if they didn't remove the Joe Rogan podcast from Spotify he would would release new music lol.
Anyway Davis: IU, UAB, Texas Southern, Detroit Mercy, and I believe he's going to be coaching again at a place called Miss Valley State.
We 100% had boosters paying players. No idea if Davis was in on it, but my friends dad was for sure paying the players and his house was a safe haven for smoking weed, free meals, etc.
@gros-louis Boosters were paying top players at every major school. To think otherwise, or that it could actually be prevented, is absurd.
