in a must win game just absolutely atrocious play from everyone not named Lamar and kind of Tucker. I mean Lamar goes for 30 msu doesn’t score in 5 mins, and they still have an easy wire to wire win.
Not hard when we play two mid major players for 35 minutes that give you 3 points about 4 airballs and 3 rebounds none of which came from Bailey. They are awful. I was 100% right.
Sort of anti-climatic to get a big hard on about this game after the NW fiasco, isn't it? Season is over.
I thought Tucker was bad today. Useless scoring. 3-12 from 30 feet away. Isn't that what any defense is hoping for?
Wilkerson was really good in the second half. Alexis is better when he has a little room to work, and Indiana simply doesn't run much for him.
It was a head scratcher to see them play that bad considering the need to win. Devries is not running an offense that gives good looks. It almost seems they've gotten worse as the season has gone on.
@redandrowdy Exactly. This wasn't the game we needed to win, until we lost to Northwestern. That was the end of our season.
I just saw this thread and independently posted similar things on this and other boards. Spot on. Nice kids, no business starting. I don't care if Enright knows the system, he plays his ass off but just does not have have even MAC-level starting guard talent IMO. Bailey wouldn't start on more than half the MAC level teams I would have to imagine. He doesn't even look like he enjoys being out there.. It's as if someone said you're tall, you should play BB. He's 6'11 and gets pushed around in the middle like a freshman guard that hasn't visited the weight room yet.
Frustrating to say the least and what gives me fading faith that DD isn't over his head here. Teng was killing us but I thought when we played zone, it was the best defense we could put out there--we don't have the talent, toughness or mindset to play man to man for 40mins with this team.
@demunn totally agree that we don’t have the talent to play with this team. Sad thing is MSU is for sure the 3rd best team in our league and could argue it’s the 4th or 5th.
We have to play absolutely perfect to even make it a game with these players. The talent is so poor on this team. What really makes me mad is how much we spent. Our roster is 100% more expensive than Nebraska. I would bet we have a more expensive roster than MSU. Need a better ROI. If he puts together a team like this next year it better be his last.
@cavanagh I can't argue with any of that. The hire produced little, if any, excitement for the program. CDD has done very little, since, to generate any excitement or momentum. NO JUICE to IU basketball at all right now.
So, per usual, many of you are on the right track, but the levels of your take are way too far.
1. MSU is probably the 2nd best team in the league, and might be the best team in the league heading in to the tournaments. 4th or 5th best is an absolutely insane over exaggeration. Per usual, Izzo has them peaking at the right time. We saw what that looks like yesterday. Purdue saw what that looks like. And I'll bet Michigan will see what that looks like this weekend.
2. Tucker is doing so many things to help us right now... its hilarious how most of you are missing how good of an overall basketball player he is. Its beyond established, at this point, that he's not a "2000 point" level scorer, at the B10 level. But he's defending, rebounding, passing, at a very high level for us.
3. Like some of our former players that Cav, and others have ragged on, the problem with guys like Enright, and even Bailey, isn't that they're on IU's roster, its that they're relied on to be starters and/or main rotation players... AND in Bailey's case, to be that in a position he's never played before, and isn't suited to play. I think, in general, "you all" are right, we have 2 guys that are upper level B10 players, and then the rest are not starter level B10 players. But most of them are roster worthy, and could be valuable bench players for a good team. Enright is just as good as the kid MSU brought in to spell Fears, as an example. Bailey could be a valuable stretch wing backup. Unfortunately, we're calling on them to start or play main rotation roles, and compete head to head with players like Fears and Kohler...
4. Michigan State has one of the best defenses in our conference. Its a top 10 defense in the country. We didn't play "bad" yesterday. We just missed too many open looks. And we couldn't get stops/rebounds when we needed to. DeVries offense is difficult to guard, when they run it. We showed that yesterday. The offense produced quite a lot of very good scoring opportunities, against one of the best defenses in the nation. We just didn't get much of anything out of anyone other than Tucker and Lamar. Obviously we can't beat a team like MSU, when that happens. But unlike Purdue and Illinois, we actually were very competitive in this game, and that was with MSU shooting the ball quite a lot better than they normally do.
@iunorth just as good as the MSU back up guy right? You know how many times he has played more than 10 mins in the last 10 games??? ZERO. Sure he could be on a roster of a big ten team. So was Erik Suhr and so many other scrubs (love ya Erik)
I talk dramatically, don’t take me literally. Enright does not play more than a few minutes drawing a charge and giving a good guard a blow on any top 20 team in the country. Bailey doesn’t get 5 mins for a good team he is beyond scrub level.
they stink like most of your posts :).
@cavanagh I think both could be regular 10 ish minute guys for really any good team in the country. Enright we kind of know what he'd look like. He'd be an energy guy off the bench, a guy to go use his fouls and disrupt someone that's on a heater, start and facilitate movement for an offense... that type of guy. Bailey though, on a good team, with good, higher level bigs... we just don't know what he'd look like playing a stretch 4, or stretch wing. He handles the ball very well, for his size, and I'd say he's a plus level perimeter defender, for his size. He's obviously incredibly weak inside, against B10 level bigs. Probably the most weak guy at the rim I've ever seen, from a main rotation guy, in an IU uniform. So I'm not saying he'd be an All B10, or even starter level wing, for anyone. I just think the thought of him playing alongside a good big, is intriguing. Because of his skillset, quickness, and bounciness for someone that's 6-10. Its VERY strange, to me, that CDD hasn't tried it. Just like its very strange that Sisley isn't getting any more run any more. He must be god awful in practices or something.
** and that MSU backup is playing behind the best PG in the conference, in my opinion. And a guy that plays TONS of minutes. So no, Enright would not play a ton for MSU. But he'd be a regular for them. Izzo would love him, I'm sure.
@iunorth Braden smith is the best PG in the league. And Bailey would what showcase his ability to no be able to do anything but dunk with no one guarding him? You touch him he airballs it. He has shot from out side 10 feet about 3 times all year. He an atrocious defender in the paint, can’t rebound to save his life. He has no skills. You are dead wrong on him. Stretch 4 my ass

We paid more for Bailey than we did for Ballo. Let that one sink in.
@cavanagh Maybe, maybe not. He's pretty good when switching on perimeter players, defensively. And he's an above average passer and ball handler, for his size, on the perimeter. No arguing how weak he is when contested at the rim. Baffling, to me, why CDD keeps trying to force him in to those situations. Alexis is our only interior player, right now.
And I think Fears is better than Braden Smith. Smith is great, obviously. But he's been exposed, many times in his career, by length and athleticism. I don't think anyone has exposed Fears. His only issue is he has a little Draymond in him, which I suspect Izzo secretly loves about him, truthfully. Fears is averaging more assists. Is an equal scorer. And is more than a little bit better defender out top, than Smith.
@arioznahoosier4554 Portal market dictated that. And Kentucky was on Bailey too, and they had basically unlimited funds. Not saying CDD should have ended up pulling the trigger for Bailey, for a million. Especially if he was dead set on making him a 5 man. But comparing Bailey's NIL package to previous years players isn't a fair comparision, at all.

The point is you now have to pay more for just average players. So if the NIL is not increased by alot we are not going to be getting any of the top players. I am guessing it will need to be increased at least 5 million on the low end to have any chance at a few top guys.
